Duties and Responsibilities:
• Possesses in-depth process technology and continuous improvement skill sets helping to establish credibility with the operations team. Detailed knowledge of material properties, testing methods and process equipment.
• Drives knowledge exchange with technology experts to increase awareness of potential improvement opportunities for the technology.
• Partners with experts to develop and implement a Plant Specific Technology Plan (PTSP) to deliver positive year-over-year ROC (return on capital) and non-capital continuous improvement while meeting the plant level HSES improvement goals. Serves as a project manager for capital and operational projects.
• Leads and/or supports plant continuous improvement activities and supports the capital plan for the facility.
• Champions and act as a resource for process safety activities and concerns. Partner with operations and maintenance to identify technology gaps, track performance indicators, & continuous improvement opportunities.
• Ensures project engineering files and/or turn over packages (e-TOP) are complete. Maintains up-to-date technical information for all processes (i.e., drawings, calculations, BOMs, O&M manuals, etc.).
• Champions the “next unplanned event” exercise to ensure potential solutions are captured.
• Provides advice to manufacturing operations to resolve process, product, and quality related issues.
• Leads Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and/or Failure Mode Effects Analyses (FMEA) using established tools to identify solutions, implement corrective actions to reduce risks and minimize challenges.
• Adheres to the management of change (MOC) process to ensure documentation is complete, risks are adequately assessed / controlled, personnel are trained, changes are approved prior to implementation.
• Experienced in process equipment qualification and validation (IQ/OQ/PQ).
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Technical and Project Management Requirements:
• Fundamental principles (mass and energy balances, process parameters, governing equations)
• Plant unit operations knowledge and the ability to develop/read PFDs, P&IDs, EOLs, trace lines, specify equipment and process control technology).
• Possess technology and process safety knowledge. Experienced in process hazard assessments (PHA) and pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR).
• Knowledge of key continuous improvement systems (Six Sigma, LEAN)
• Knowledge and adherence to the core Work Processes for the plant.
• Demonstrated project management and organizational skills.
• Ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective communication and writing skills, and the ability to influence other team members.
• Financial acumen
Nice to Haves (not required):
• Prior technical knowledge and/or experience with thermoplastic polyurethane manufacturing.
• Knowledge and/or prior experience with BMS, SAP, Delta V, PI, statistical process control (SPC), and energy efficiency.
• Prior experience training operators, technicians, and other colleagues.
Educational Requirements:
• BS in Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum eight (8) years’ engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements:
• Time Factors/Weight Factors: Occasional—over 15% up to 40% of the time / Light 5# to 25#
Rarely—up to 15% of the time / Heavy – over 60#
• Vision correctable to 20/20.
• Hearing correctable to unamplified human voice.
• Manual dexterity: excellent.
• Ability to meet safety, regulatory, and health guidelines without assistance.
• Ability to travel by auto/air unassisted.
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
• Ability to complete and deliver oral/written reports.
• Continuous mental/visual concentration
