As the Driveline and Industrial Test Engineer, you’ll interact closely with the Driveline (Axle, Transmission, and Friction Device Lubricants) and Industrial (Industrial Gears and Hydraulics) business groups. You’ll be accountable for delivering quality test results and engineering solutions effectively and efficiently. As part of this, you will need to understand product approval, differentiation, and testing needs and ensure that Mechanical Testing (MT) activities and resources are appropriately deployed to support the needs of the business.  This includes providing engineering support to the lab operating team, coordination of work from internal and external service groups, new test development, interpretation of test results, and technical presentations to global OEM’s, partners, customers and internal colleagues.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops in-depth knowledge of related Friction and Gear Testing methods for lubricant product development and product differentiation.
  • Develops in-depth knowledge of relevant application hardware.
  • Develops in-depth understanding of relevant OEM and industry specifications and trends.
  • Applies engineering skills and knowledge in the development of new tests and test procedures, providing engineering solutions and delivering quality test results in a timely manner.
  • Conducts data analysis and provides clear, concise, and timely reports.
  • Interacts with business technical and commercial teams to develop testing strategies which best support business growth objectives.
  • Ensures that projects are aligned with business goals and there are agreed-upon milestones, dates, and accountability.
  • Provides regular updates to business groups on technical and project achievements as well as hurdles and issues. Reviews project performance at milestones and ensures accountability to deliver agreed upon results.
  • Partners with laboratory operations, data acquisition and control, and other resources.  Effectively coordinates these resources to ensure optimum test performance (cost, quality, safety, and linkage to business objectives) and timely execution.
  • Partners across technology groups, striving for consistency in processes and resource sharing. Supports processes that ensure operating flexibility in response to customer demands. Drives for continuous improvement in test area.
  • Tracks and understands Division and MT Department goals and metrics and the group's progress against them. Contributes to proactively meeting these goals.


Required Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • BS or MS degree in Engineering. Mechanical or Electrical Engineering highly preferred
  • 2+ years of engineering experience (co-op experience will be considered)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to respond and adapt constructively to new demands, priorities and obstacles.


Considered a Plus

  • Knowledge of passenger and light duty truck drivetrain systems and the OEM’s that build these systems
  • Knowledge of Industrial Gear and Hydraulics applications.
  • Knowledge of automotive electrification
  • Ability to adapt to and script in different Data Acquisition, reporting, and programing languages.


Working Conditions

  • May require occasional domestic travel and infrequent international travel.
  • Requires use of appropriate PPE, Personal Protective Equipment, to fulfill safety requirements.
