Lubrizol is currently looking for a Global Leader of Data Science. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the transformation of data science efforts across the enterprise and leading the data science team in driving insights, developing predictive models, and building data-driven solutions to support our business needs.
You will lead the creation and execution of the data science strategy, along with delivering and leveraging AI systems and machine learning tools. The bulk of the work will be in machine learning (ML) modelling, management and problem analysis, data exploration and preparation, data collection and integration, model operationalization.
This role is a critical part of the Lubrizol Corporate Technology Leadership team and a valuable partner to the businesses, IT, R&D, operations, and functional leaders across the corporation.
You must love working closely with senior leadership to identify opportunities to accelerate digital transformation and promote a data-driven culture. You must be an impactful storyteller capable of inspiring others around the insights and efficiency that data facilitates. The position is fundamental in enabling, leveraging, and retaining data science talent across the organization. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic and driven individual with a proven history in managing data science projects, delivering innovative solutions, and leading a team of data scientists and analysts.
This role will report to the Sr. VP of Corporate Technology (CTO).
As a Global Leader of Data Science, you will:
- Build and lead an enterprise-wide data science function to develop, assess, and deploy predictive models, algorithms, and data-driven solutions to solve complex business problems.
- Create and implement a vision and strategy for Data Science to drive insights, develop predictive models, and build data-driven solutions to support our business needs.
- Create a comprehensive roadmap to how AI/ML can be leveraged wholistically throughout the company - identifying gaps and barriers that need to be bridged.
- Drive adoption of AI/ML throughout the entire corporation to drive growth and enable efficiencies and transformation from traditional to digital processes, including management of change.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for data-driven decision-making and provide strategic guidance on data science projects.
- Build and maintain a data-driven culture within the organization, promoting data literacy and encouraging data-driven decision-making throughout the company.
- Develop and implement data science methodologies, best practices, and standards to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of data.
- Stay up to date with the latest developments in data science technologies and techniques and evaluate their potential impact on our business.
- Identify, build, and leverage strong external relationships and partnerships with leaders in the field.
- Recruit, train, mentor, and manage a team of data scientists and analysts, providing guidance and support on projects and career development.
What you will need:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree data/computer science, statistics, mathematics, chemistry, chemical engineering or related scientific field.
- Proven experience in managing data science projects and leading a team of data scientists and analysts.
- Executive presence with persuasive communication, thought leadership, presentation, and engagement/influencing skills, with the ability to explain and translate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influence decision-making at all levels.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to identify and solve complex business problems using data-driven approaches.
- Comfortable dealing with ambiguity, able to create a flexible strategy, and adapts well in a rapidly changing business environment.
- Ability to proactively build relationships and work across multiple functions.
- Strong technical skills in advanced analytics, machine learning, and data science applications
- Familiarity with a wide range of data analytics tools and technologies, including R, Python, SAS, and SQL
- Well-versed in agile methodologies and applying DevOps/MLOps methods to the construction of data analytics systems and tools.
- Information management skills, including working knowledge of IT infrastructure, cloud-based architectures, technologies, platforms, and enterprise-specific vendor solutions.
- Extensive knowledge of data science methodologies, machine learning, statistical analysis, and data visualization techniques.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
