What You'll Do:

As a Research Design and Testing Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of our innovation, supporting long-term research, innovation, and problem-solving projects as well as urgent testing required to meet business demands. You’ll collaborate with a diverse group of passionate individuals to deliver sustainable solutions to advance mobility, improve wellbeing and enhance modern life.

 

This role will be involved with the design of new mechanical test rigs, prototypes, and novel pilot scale production equipment.  It will also be responsible for test development and engineering support of new and existing test rigs.  This will include designing and modifying test protocols and troubleshooting equipment.  This role will grow to provide engineering support across Lubrizol with an initial focus on our polymer physical testing lab in Brecksville, OH.  This support will include troubleshooting instruments, data analysis, and improving procedures and processes. 

 

As a member of APS, you will be expected to learn from and collaborate with experts in the many disciplines within our organization.  These include Colloid Science, Engineering, Microscopy, Physical Testing, Rheology, Thermal Analysis, Tribology (“Physical”), & Chromatography, ICP, Mass Spec, NMR, Optical Spectroscopy, Wet Chemistry (“Analytical”).

 

This position will be based at our Wickliffe, OH site but will be expected to travel to our Brecksville, OH site as often as necessary (up to 50% of the time).

 

What We're Looking For:

  • Provide engineering support including but not limited to procedures and processes improvement, troubleshooting rigs/equipment, and data analysis.
  • Design new mechanical test rigs, prototypes, and novel pilot scale production equipment.
  • Develop tests and provide engineering support for new and existing test rigs. 
  • Design/modify test protocols and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Learn to independently analyze experimental data and report results.
  • Manage and maintain existing instrumentation and equipment, and propose upgrades when appropriate, to meet the needs of both new and existing products and applications.
  • Train team members on utilization of equipment and execution of procedures.
  • Execute all work with an attention to detail.
  • Generate, organize, interpret, and report data to support technical projects.
  • Communicate and interact with a broad range of internal requestors through technical reports, presentations, and conversations.
  • Actively participate in Lubrizol safety programs and maintain a safe working environment.

 

Skills That Make a Difference:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Experience writing technical reports and presenting to technical audiences.
  • Willing to work at Lubrizol’s Brecksville, Ohio site. (up to 50% of the time)
  • Willingness to travel outside of Northeast Ohio. (less than 10%)
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office

 

Considered a Plus:

  • Design Experience (CAD)
  • Experience with testing in an industrial or research/design setting (i.e. running standard and/or non-standard tests, troubleshooting test rigs, designing test protocols, analyzing data and reporting results)
  • Programming Experience (e.g. Python, VBA, MatLab)
  • Experience designing or implementing mechanically automated systems.
  • Experience with Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and/or Machine Learning (ML).
  • Experience developing standard operating procedures (SOP) and/or job safety analyses (JSA).
