Process Development Engineer – Finished Products

 

Background

The Process, Technology, and Sourcing (PTS) team for Finished Products needs a process development engineer. This team supports the safe commercialization of quality products from product initiation to first production for the Lubrizol Additives (LZA) business. The Finished Product process development engineer works in the Wickliffe Pilot Plant; the engineer is responsible for scaling up new products and processes following the new platform introduction process (NPIP), supporting manufacturing facilities, and ensuring or improving product quality and processes as related to finished products.  

 

Duties, Responsibilities

  • Scale-up from lab to pilot plant, and to manufacturing for the commercialization of new LZA products.
  • Oversee, manage and facilitate the New Platform Introduction Process (NPIP)
  • Collaborate with other departments and divisions: Business, R&D, Testing, and Operations
  • Be customer-focused, making informed and timely decisions
  • Lead multi-functional teams with a wide variety of experience and background
  • Conduct design of experiments to investigate blending problems or improvements
  • Plan pilot-scale blend and ILB (in-line blender) experiments with effective use of time and available resources
  • Write pilot-scale batch sheets, closely follow batches in progress, and fully evaluate batch results.
  • Provide on-site or on-call support outside of normal working hours as needed
  • Lead special projects and present project status updates, clearly communicate goals, progress, and results
  • Write eMA’s (electronic manufacturing requests) and support manufacturing blend trials
  • Provide support for economic justifications on capital projects and process improvements
  • Write pilot plant reports with full documentation of product development
  • Comply with applicable internal and external Lubrizol and HSE policies
  • Some domestic and international travel required depending on the projects assigned

Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from accredited college or university
  • 2 years of experience in process engineering, preferably in a manufacturing facility
  • Hands-on mechanical- and chemical-oriented process engineering skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-starter with ability to manage and lead multiple projects
  • Background with experimental design and data analysis
  • Strong technical writing skills and presentation skills

Considered a Plus

  • Experience in a manufacturing facility involving the blending of lubricant additive products
  • Familiarity with SAP
  • Experience with Aspen, FMP, PI ProcessBook, Statgraphics, VBA, and Visimix
  • Strong Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint skills
