What You'll Do:
As a Lubrizol mechanical testing co-op student, you will rotate through a number of different assignments based on your interests and on the company’s needs. Lubrizol believes in providing you with a wide variety of experiences as well as increasing your responsibilities as you progress through the program. You will be an important part of Lubrizol’s testing team. You will support various types of laboratory tests and engineering projects. Engineering support is needed in the areas of sensor technology, fuels, lubricants and emissions research for two-cycle, gasoline and heavy-duty diesel engines. You also may work with stationary test rigs for stressing numerous drivetrain lubricants, such as automatic transmission fluids and automotive gear oils. Mechanical engineers play a key role in Lubrizol’s performance fluid systems for the transportation industry. These areas offer many new opportunities for the company and its employees. Experience in the mechanical testing laboratory helps you to make a strong contribution to these new systems.
What We're Looking For:
Laboratory Technician (First Term)
- Your first work term is typically spent as a lab technician with the laboratory operating team. This is a hands-on assignment that involves working with other technicians on dismantling and rebuilding hardware, test operation plus familiarity with data acquisition and control systems. Assignments can include working with two-cycle gasoline and diesel engines, manual, automatic, and continuously variable transmissions, hydraulic pumps, tractor and automotive axles
- You will gain a basic knowledge of the testing qualification for performance fluids and enjoy positive team interaction. In future work terms, projects will be team efforts that involve people from different areas of the company who are unified by one common goal. Strong relationships are established between technicians and support groups, such as lab maintenance, machine shop and instrumentation, and are extremely important. These relationships with co-workers will help you when you gain responsibility in future assignments
Project Engineer
- As your knowledge grows with your school curriculum, so will the scope of future projects. You will become directly involved with engineers in the support of test lab projects
- You will work with engineering teams on a variety of tasks. Projects may include, but are not limited to, specification testing for performance lubricants, research testing for fuels and emissions, developing new procedures or test rig designs, designing, or improving control systems and problem solving. Assignments are meant to technically challenge you in an effort to promote professional growth while being an integral part of the company’s business. Skills That Make a Difference:
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university, with a graduation date of 2028 or later
- Ability to complete three or more co-op work terms
- Students with GPA > 3.0 will be given priority consideration
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future
