Experienced HVAC Controls Engineer needed to support Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations of HVAC and building automation systems at Lubrizol’s Headquarters in Wickliffe, Ohio. This position reports to the Site Services Engineering Manager working with Engineers and Maintenance to monitor and manage the building automation system for Lubrizol’s Wickliffe facilities which include a wide mix of spaces (control rooms, laboratories, data center, offices, testing, etc.). This person will be primarily responsible for programming and retro/re-commissioning/returning control systems, as well as supporting HVAC capital projects, so applicable experience is critical.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day technical direction in the planning, engineering, maintenance, and operation of Lab building mechanical and control systems such as building HVAC and refrigeration systems, Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), etc.
- Monitor and assess building mechanical and controls systems vital signs; conduct root cause failure analysis for any potential reliability and/or performance issues.
- Serve as the subject-matter expert for HVAC and refrigeration control system assets, which includes maintenance procedures, standards, obsolescent issues to control system software and firmware version control.
- Partner with stakeholders to develop preventive maintenance tasks that ensures reliability while meeting operation requirements.
- Collaborate with project teams in building mechanical and control systems design reviews, equipment selections, factory acceptance tests, and process safety and start up reviews.
- Analyze, Review, and solve complex historical operating data for HVAC equipment and make recommendations to address reliability issues.
- Ensures that the entirety of your organization embraces the vision of the Wickliffe plant and the corporation, setting clear expectations and ensuring goals are met.
- Maintains a positive work environment/culture that fosters efficiency, effectiveness and high morale while ensuring that all employees are treated fairly and equitably.
- Provides necessary support for non-routine tasks, shutdowns, and upset conditions, including outside of normal working hours.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
- Associates degree or equivalent years of relevant experience
- 5+ years industrial HVAC experience and/or working with building automation and controls systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of industrial HVAC equipment (chillers, boilers, air handlers, refrigeration compressors, and pumps)
- Experience developing scope and managing projects emphasizing on HVAC systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical processes; identify problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and drive to a resolution.
- Microsoft Office suite, including Microsoft Project.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills (written and verbal).
Considered A Plus:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 7-10 years of experience working with industrial HVAC equipment.
- ASHRAE Certification(s) such as Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP) and/or Certified HVAC Designer (CHD)
- Knowledge of working with Siemens Building Automation Equipment
- Knowledge of chemical industry Environmental, Health, and Safety regulations
Working Conditions:
- Willing/able to work in plant (inclement weather) as required.
- Able to work in chemical processing areas.
- Work is performed within a controlled environment; noise levels in some areas require hearing protection.
- Able to climb stairs and industrial fixed ladders. Potential to work at elevated heights and/or use of mechanical personnel lift equipment.
- Ability to wear all required PPE.
