OVERVIEW:

Responsible for providing tactical leadership to implement and manage the organization’s enterprise risk management (ERM) program. The information generated from the ERM program will enable informed decision-making by senior leadership to enhance risk management and risk reduction activities in support of achieving strategic objectives. This role works closely with all corporate functions and business units to assist in risk identification, quantification, and management models. The ERM program encompasses risks across the entire organization, including but not limited to risks related to health, safety, environment, and security (HSES), information and technology systems (IT), supply chain and procurement, business strategy, finance and controls environment, legal and human resources. The primary objectives for the ERM program are:

  • Identify, assess, and communicate risks that may impact achievement of the company vision, strategy, and key objectives.
  • Utilize risk information for informed decision-making, strategic planning and risk management activities aligned with the overarching company strategic plans and objectives.
  • Utilize risk information for short- and long-term resource planning aligned with the overarching company strategic plan and objectives.

 

This is a highly visible position requiring significant communication and interaction with all levels of the organization. This role requires experience in risk management and project management, with attention to details and the ability to understand the connections between the corporate strategy and identified risks that could impact the achievement of corporate objectives.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Support the design, implementation, and management of the ERM process and program that ensures the identification and assessment of enterprise level risks to the organization. The ERM program should include all aspects of an ERM framework:
    • Strategy and objective setting
    • Risk identification/revalidation
    • Risk assessment
    • Risk management /response and control plans
    • Communication and monitoring
    • Audit, assess, adjust.     
  • Develop ERM policies, procedures, and guidelines that adhere to industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Document ERM processes and controls using AuditBoard and other tools, flowcharts, or narratives.
  • Develop risk registers and facilitate risk workshops to capture emerging risks.
  • Provides ongoing monitoring and support for the management of risks through effective and pragmatic challenge to the support functions and business units and helps develop early warning indicators for proactive monitoring.
  • Identifies trends and interdependencies throughout the support functions and business units and facilitates conversations with various functions throughout the company to ensure alignment and consistency in the management of risks.
  • Serves in a consultative capacity (subject matter expert) to support functions and business units on risk related matters.
  • Assist Insurance Risk Manager in insurance policy renewal process.
  • Works with internal audit to support risk-based audit program and planning or special projects.
  • Work collaboratively with other risk and business managers on enterprise risk policies reviews in order to ensure ERM risk practices are aligned with enterprise requirements.
  • Participate in business and enterprise level strategic projects and lead key elements of risk management development and improvement initiatives.
  • Regularly assess the effectiveness of the ERM program and propose enhancements to ensure it remains relevant and adaptive to changing risks.
  • Implement feedback mechanisms and lessons learned from incidents to improve risk management processes.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field that supports risk and project management experience (HSES, Process Safety, Engineering, Information Technology/Cyber Security, Internal Audit). Certified Risk Manager (CRM) certification or related professional certification is a plus.
  • Five or more years of experience in a technical, analytical, or similar role preferably in a chemical manufacturing environment and/or for a global organization.
  • Experience and in-depth knowledge of risk management principles and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards related to risk management. 
  • Strong analytical, technical and data management skills.
  • Commitment to learn new concepts and industry best practices.
  • Impactful communication skills (verbal and written) to effectively and professionally collaborated with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Be comfortable executing on multiple projects and high-quality deliverables simultaneously with excellent time management skills and sense of prioritization.
  • Ability to work independently and lead or facilitate risk workshops in a team environment.
  • Ability to work successfully with internal and external customers in a professional manner.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and address challenges.
  • Familiarity with Auditboard’s Risk Oversight module is a plus.
