Key Job Accountabilities:

Control system and instrumentation support:

  • Provide support for the Process Development Department’s (PDD) control system platforms, which might include:  performing software and hardware upgrades, system administration activities, diagnosing software and hardware issues, troubleshooting control logic, and developing new control strategies. 
  • Support instrumentation installed base through lifecycle planning and migration.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies
  • Perform instrument engineering design calculations
  • Troubleshoot control system and instrumentation issues
  • Participate in the development of preventative and proactive maintenance programs
  • Monitor area alarm performance and resolve problem areas to meet ISA 18.2 alarm standard. 

 

Technical consultant:

  • Work with development engineers to scope, cost and implement instrumentation and controls solutions to enable new component and process development activities. 
  • Provide engineering support to instrument technicians and electricians
  • Partner with operations to optimize processes, tune loops, implement safety improvements and modify existing control strategies
  • Provide control system training
  • Serve as PDD’s representative on the Lubrizol OMS (Operations Management System) team.  Participates as appropriate and adopts best practices and standards developed by that team. 

 

Project management:

  • Manage and/or support various facility instrumentation / automation projects, which include or affect the PDD.
  • Execute small projects within PDD: develop project scope; estimate project cost; perform detailed engineering and generate required documentation; draft and submit project packages for approval; procure necessary equipment; develop control strategies; coordinate construction activities; perform commissioning and startup activities; and manage budget

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of process instrumentation and control systems experience
  • Experience implementing hardware and software for process control systems (PLC and DCS)  
  • Experience specifying, commissioning, and providing long term support for industrial process instrumentation such as; pressure, temperature, level, flow, and analytical measurements and valves
  • Working knowledge of ISA (International Society for Automation) terminology and symbolism
  • Awareness of OSHA, NFPA and other regulations with the ability to design to their standards where applicable
  • Ability to make decisions independently on engineering problems
  • Strong written and verbal interpersonal skills

 
CONSIDERED A PLUS:

  • Chemical manufacturing and/or pilot plant experience
  • Experience with the DeltaV control system and instrument fieldbus networks such as Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus, AS-i bus, and DeviceNet 
  • Experience with SAP, Smart Plant Instrumentation, PI, and AMS
  • Experience with implementing equipment control modules and supporting batch control applications
