Product Safety and Compliance, Specialist/Manager - Japan

PURPOSE:

 

This position is a regulatory compliance role designed to provide timely regulatory expertise, guidance and support to internal and external customers related to product safety and compliance matters in support Lubrizol Japanese business and customers. This position involves application of Lubrizol chemistry knowledge to the requirements of evolving Japanese chemical safety and compliance regulations and customer/business requirements. 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  • Regulatory compliance assistance activities to conduct compliance assessments to determine chemical inventory status of Lubrizol products and support Japan local chemical notifications, reporting obligations, and SDS/Label compliance.
  • Participate in the creation and filing of dossiers for new chemical notifications and related applications in order to gain product regulatory clearance for the import, manufacture, and/or use of products, intermediates, raw materials and developmental materials.
  • Provide technical expertise and value-added product safety and compliance services to internal and/or external customers and their commercial partners, either proactively or in response to requests for support. Ensure customer new product approval data requests and significant changes to product labels and MSDSs are communicated in a timely manner.

 

  • Identify and communicate business opportunities and threats arising from current and future legislation and industry product compliance trends consistent with business or company-wide objectives; proactively monitor local legislation, as required.
     
  • Collaborate with regional product safety and compliance manager to establish and implement product safety and compliance policies and procedures for the assigned country or business.

 

  • Collaborate with local  Technical Deployment center, Supply Chain and Operations organizations and specific business units to encourage product safety and compliance principles and practices;
     
  • Other tasks assigned to support the team and business
     
  • Handle the increasing customer inquiries year by year

 

REQUIREMENTS – EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS:

 

  • Master degree in toxicology, chemistry or related scientific discipline and more than 5 years’ practical experience in a regulatory discipline or having other relevant industrial experience; BS degree with more than 7 years’ relevant experience
  • Knowledge and experience in chemical product safety or compliance experience
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working in a team environment
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and appropriately manage priorities for self and global organization
  • Detail oriented and results driven
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Good written and oral English.
  • Proficient with computer basics and common business related computer software programs

 

CONSIDERED A PLUS:

 

  • In-depth knowledge and experience of the businesses supported including chemistry, product lines, markets served, business strategies, and business processes
  • Knowledge of global chemical control laws or hazard communication requirements
  • Previous experience in project or process management
  • Experience in corporate ERP business systems, such as SAP-EHS
