In this position you will provide legal advice, support, and expertise in Europe for Contract Management, Legal Compliance, Claims and Litigation Management.


The Business Lawyer joins the Regional Legal Team and is based in France. He/She reports to the Director Legal Affairs – Europe, Middle East, Africa and India (EMEAI), who is based in Rouen (France).


Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities


  • Provide reliable subject matter expert advice on compliance matters (export laws, anti-corruption laws, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), etc.)
  • Complete risk analysis to mitigate legal risks and ensure adherence with Lubrizol compliance programs and policies
  • Provide hands-on legal advice for commercial legal matters in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations
  • Draft and manage commercial and business agreements, Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) for cooperation and tender participation, property matters and interaction with government authorities
  • Escalates and reports to the EMEAI Director of Legal Affairs any compliance issues
  • Deliver Compliance Training for functional teams, such as Competition Laws, Anti-Corruption Acts, etc.
  • Provide high quality, solution orientated, cost effective and risk balanced consultancy to protect the best interest of the company and assist the company to achieve its business objectives
  • Manage claims and litigations through accurately assessing issues and taking timely conservatory measures
  • Tender claims to 3rd parties when required and reach amicable settlement agreements in the interest of the company
  • Keep updated with the development of legal knowledge and skills and anticipate the impact of current or emerging legal issues and risks to the Company


Skills, Qualification, Experience


  • 15+ years of experience acquired as legal counsel in a law firm or as in-house company business counsel, ideally in a multinational industrial environment
  • Proven interpersonal skills and drive for results
  • Solid knowledge managing compliance matters, contract management, claims and litigations management
  • Proactive and analytical mindset with appropriate attention to detail to ensure compliance
  • Possess the highest ethical standards and personal integrity
  • Networking with external agencies and government institutions is a plus
  • Fluent in English and French, any other European language is a plus
  • Flexible and ability to travel from time to time
