Summary of the Role:
As part of the Logistics Operations team, IMEA, an Export Import Logistics Specialist, is responsible for managing and coordinating international shipments, ensuring compliance with customs regulations, and optimizing logistics operations for timely and cost-effective delivery. An Export Import Logistics Specialist will be accountable to work with Lubrizol’s Intercompany planning teams, Procurement (for raw material imports) and external LSP’s (Logistics Service Providers) to ensure timely delivery of inbound and outbound shipments and improve Lubrizol’s import export logistics reliability. This function will lead the logistics management for all imports & exports, closely monitor demurrage and detention for all imports & exports and seek opportunities for cost improvements. This function as well will support regional projects across Business segments in function of existing and future needs. Ensure safety, productivity, and compliance with international and regional regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Shipment Coordination:
- Plan and execute import and export shipments including LCL, FCL, ISO (air, sea, road)
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, shipping lines, and transporters
- Collaborate with internal teams (Customer Experience & Intercompany Planning) and external partners to ensure full cargo release (Customs, freight, etc.) and on-time delivery.
- Track shipments, ensure on-time delivery, minimizing storage time at ports and yards to improve efficiency
- Documentation & Compliance
- Create, verify, and maintain import/export documents (Bills of lading/Airway bill, Customs invoices, letters of credit, Bill of Entry /Shipping Bills)
- Ensure compliance with customs regulations and DGFT guidelines.
- Ensure correct HS code classification and duty calculations/ benefits in coordination with Trade Compliance team
- Manage end‑to‑end Rode and Advance Authorizations processes, including correct scheme application, tracking, reconciliation, and timely closure
- Customs Clearance
- Coordinate with CHA (Customs House Agents) & freight forwarder for clearance & processing the shipment
- Monitor BOE filing and shipment release
- Resolve customs queries and documentation issues
- Execute all post‑shipment documentation and manage duty payments with complete accuracy, ensuring zero penalties
- Cost Management
- Monitor freight, duty, and clearance costs
- Identify cost-saving opportunities (demurrage, detention,) & Implement strategies to minimize detention costs on export shipments
- Maintain logistics cost records and reports
- Process Improvement
- Implement tracking systems and control mechanisms
- Improve turnaround time and reduce delays
- Identify gaps in import–export workflows and implement process improvements to reduce lead time, documentation errors, and operational bottlenecks
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen/Lean principles) to improve shipment cycle time and overall compliance accuracy.
- Stakeholder Coordination
- Work with internal teams (procurement, finance, warehouse, planning team)
- Communicating with international suppliers and customers
- Manage relationships with logistics service providers, manage LSP performance & identify improvement areas
- Monitor and ensure prompt receipt of DSRs from LSPs to uphold compliance standards and drive efficient logistics operations
Requirements (education, experience, competencies and specific job requirements):
Education & Certification
• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree required
• Certification or degree in supply chain related function is a plus.
Experience & Skills:
- Minimum of 5 years of Logistics import - export operations experience.
- Strong knowledge of import/export procedures and Incoterms
- Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail, ability to prioritize, organize, and follow through is essential.
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills and professionalism. This position will interface with logistics team members and internal customers and business partners on a regular basis.
- Demonstrated proficiency in SAP and MS office tools.
- Enthusiastic, diplomatic and possess excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
