Section 2: Purpose of the job


The role of the Process Safety Engineer is to provide process engineering support to the facility through the identification and leadership of initiatives to improve the performance of existing processes and introduce new or modified products, processes, and operating systems. The process safety engineer will lead activities related to PSM.


The Process Engineer will aid in supporting and developing the plant’s Distributed Control System (DCS).

Section 4: Main Responsibilities


  1. Actively participates in site safety systems; Near Miss and Incident reporting; Safety and Housekeeping audit programs, incident investigation.
  2. Provides technical support and expertise through product and process understanding.
  3. Leads facility thru a Process Safety Culture Change; lead activities around OSHA PSM which include the MOC system, PHA programs, Process Safety Audits, etc.
  4. Leads continuous improvement initiatives in HSE&S, quality, productivity, cost efficiency and is a key contributor to the Corrective and Preventative Action process.
  5. Provides a leadership role in implementing new or modified products and processes from initial concept through design development and evaluation to construction, commissioning, and handover.
  6. Supports the plant in maintaining and developing the plant Distributed Control System (DCS); this includes recipe development and entry.
  7. Provides engineering and technical expertise in communications with external agencies, regulatory bodies, customers, and the local community.
  8. Provide understanding and guidance on regulatory requirements, engineering standards and process safety management best practices
  9. Interacts with SAP and Business Warehouse to input and extract data relevant to the role.


Section 5: Qualifications Required


Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering


Section 6: Experience Required


5 – 10 years’ experience in the chemical or process industry. Areas to include HSE&S compliance, technical support, OSHA PSM, project management, technology transfer, plant control systems.

Experience in development and implementation of programs for Industry Best Practices: CCPS Risk-Based Process Safety, RAGAGEP (recognized and generally acknowledge good engineering practices) (e.g., NFPA, API, etc.).

  • LOPA (Layer of Protection Analysis) Facilitation Experience

  • PHA software (at least one of: PHAWorks, PHAPro, Leader, PHA-Tool, ePHA, etc.)
  • Ability to manage resources and priorities.
  • Ability to gather, analyze and present data to help drive continuous improvement.

  • Good organizational skills, motivational and influential; to bring out the best in others

The Pedricktown Lubrizol site is located in rural Oldmans Township, NJ.  Pedricktown is a very quaint, rural town where locally you can find the Cowtown Rodeo, which is known as “The oldest weekly running rodeo in the USA.” Although it is rural, it is close to many major cities and attractions. Philadelphia, the birthplace of our nation, is only 30 minutes away - home to the Constitution Center, Liberty Bell, and the world-renowned Art Museum where the famous scene from Rocky was shot on the museum steps.  Philly is also home to many first-class hospitals and top-tier colleges & universities.  It is also known for its bustling night life and restaurants. Philadelphia was named #3 on the “NY Times 52 Places To Go in 2015” list. New York is about 2 hours from Pedricktown – you can either drive there or get there easily by train.  New York is widely known for its first-run plays on Broadway, as well as Times Square.  Pedricktown is also conveniently located about 90 minutes from Baltimore, MD and 20 minutes from Delaware, which is home to the newly-renovated Wilmington Riverfront. In addition to city attractions, we are located about 2-1/2 hours from the Pocono Mountains, which is a great place to ski and snowboard, and less than 2 hours from the Atlantic Ocean with its beautiful white-sand beaches and Atlantic City with its numerous casinos.
