Job Summary:

The role of the Maintenance Supervisor is to lead the maintenance team in repairing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and updating the plant’s process, instrument, electrical, mechanical, piping and support systems. The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for preventative maintenance, repairs, and inspections of equipment, piping and systems to ensure functionality and reliability. The Maintenance Supervisor also supports capital projects, manages outside contractors, as well as “hands-on” facilitation of process repairs and maintenance that includes adherence to all safety rules and procedures while managing the department budget, spare parts inventory, mechanical and electrical technicians. The Maintenance Supervisor is an exempt position which will report to the Plant Engineer.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the facility and all equipment with a focus on safety inspections and monitoring.
  • Oversee daily and weekly maintenance schedules and work orders. Ensure decisions optimize utilization of resources in alignment with equipment availability and plant priorities.   
  • Direct maintenance staff regarding their work, safety, quality, and efficiency to ensure operational needs are met.
  • Troubleshoot equipment to identify source of problems and develop effective solutions to eliminate reoccurrences.
  • Establish and refine preventive maintenance programs, employee training programs, spare parts inventory, process improvement and regulatory compliance programs. 
  • Assist with developing and maintaining engineering and maintenance standards.
  • Provide resources for emergency, unscheduled repairs, and scheduled maintenance of equipment.
  • Identify and complete continuous improvement projects that improve productivity, safety, quality, and costs.
  • Work alongside vendors and suppliers to specify and secure parts or replacements.
  • Identify contractors to obtain and select project quotes. Manage contractors to plan, coordinate and supervise projects and ensure specification compliance. Ensure contractors complete all required training and comply with Lubrizol safety policies and procedures while working onsite.
  • Train and orient new maintenance staff.
  • Provide coaching and administer discipline, as needed, to enhance the overall performance level of the assigned work group while holding employees accountable for their actions. Work with Plant Engineer and HR to resolve employee relations issues.
  • Coordinate outside training programs and schedule on-site training.
  • Ensure and certify department and contractor work complies with state and local codes, as well as federal, state, local, environmental, OSHA and industry safety rules/regulations.
  • Update documentation required for Process Safety Management, Mechanical Integrity, TCPA and other applicable regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintain assigned areas in a safe and orderly manner to meet safety/ housekeeping objectives.
  • Complete required documentation of all repairs, installations and other work using both written and computer systems as needed.
  • Investigate and implement assigned Corrective Actions.
  • Willing to work off-shift, as needed, and response in a timely manner to emergencies and call-ins.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completed a journeyman apprentice program or have Lubrizol approved documentation that shows achievement of equal proficiency.
  • Five or more years of multi-craft/multi-skilled experience with expertise in electrical, electrical controls, mechanical, pneumatics, hydraulics, machine shop and fabrication in an industrial environment.
  • Five years of experience in supervisor role with a proven background in people management skills. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and troubleshooting expertise of equipment problems.
  • Experience using SAP for implementing CMMS activities. 
  • Capable to operate shop and field service tools, as required by position.
  • Experience in maintaining three-phase electrical systems.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend ladder logic, electrical schematics, procedures, and manuals.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and listen attentively at all levels with internal and external parties.
  • Take responsibility for own safety and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to successfully multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Reliable and timely, self-motivated, able to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of government and regulatory codes.
  • Knowledge of alignments, machine setup, etc. 
  • Computer literacy with Windows, MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, and Internet.
  • Computer proficiency in software related to the trade.
  • Ability to manage resources - especially personnel, time, and materials.
  • Demonstrates honesty and integrity in all personal interactions.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to motivate, influence, mentor, and instruct others.


Working Conditions:

  • Must medically qualify to wear an air purifying respirator as well as other required PPE (personal protective equipment).
  • May be required to work off ladders or other type of devices with proper safety equipment.
