Process Improvement Engineer


Job Summary:

The Process Improvement Engineer is responsible for coordinating technical activity to support scaling up new chemicals for manufacturing and continuous improvement of existing manufacturing processes by performing the following duties:


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, manage and lead capital and process projects - Provide process knowledge to Project Managers and Engineering personnel to support specification and/or maintenance of process equipment, instruments and control logic for approved projects.
  • Design and specification of equipment - Responsible for process and equipment changes to maximize efficiency and quality while minimizing cost, safety hazards, and environmental releases. This includes the development and start-up of process improvement projects
  • Process optimization and improvement - Provide technical expertise to Manufacturing for improve safety, environmental compliance, quality, capacity, or cost on an ongoing basis through data analysis and experimental design/process modeling.
  • Provide support for commissioning and start-up of capital projects and new product introduction - This may include but is not limited to unit walkthroughs, trial coverage, process and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Support Process Safety Management and Health, Environmental and Safety initiatives - Participates in safety training, incident investigations, pre-startup safety reviews, and process hazard analyses to support continuous improvement efforts.  Provides process and technical expertise.
  • Report writing and communications – Responsible for operating instructions, new product introductions, and process improvements. Provide technical training/communication for manufacturing of new product start-ups, product chemistry, process changes and problem resolution to plant personnel.
  • Economic analysis – Provide project justification.
  • Troubleshooting – Identify process changes to correct chronic issues. 
  • Additional duties as assigned. 


Skills, Experience, and Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Three years of related manufacturing plant experience.
  • Sound project management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and leadership skills.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and/or similar programs


Considered a Plus:

  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of Lubrizol chemistry.
  • Experience using SAP/S4, PI and/or DeltaV software.
  • Experience using ASPEN
  • Experience with statistical software/applications for data analysis.


Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed within a controlled environment; noise levels in some areas require hearing protection.
  • Willing/able to work in plant (inclement weather) as required.
  • Ability to wear PPE as required.
  • Ability to climb steps.
