Lubrizol is looking for Synthesis Scientist for our site in Montmeló.


Summary of Responsibilities:

The Scientist is primarily responsible for managing polymer synthesis projects or part of larger projects for new products and new technology development. The purpose of this role is to invent, design, synthesize/formulate, and conduct preliminary performance evaluations of materials with unique performance characteristics which meet or exceed constantly evolving application requirements


Essential Job Functions:  

  • Develops and proposes new formulations and structure-property relationships
  • Create and evaluate prototypes for application feasibility
  • Create and secure intellectual property
  • Perform research in multi-disciplinary environment
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently and deliver timely results
  • Continuously propose and contribute to the development of innovative new products and improve existing products
  • Collaborate with operations to ensure scalable process and the homologation of new raw materials and new suppliers.
  • Document, interpret, and communicate results to supervisor and/or stakeholders
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures
  • Adapts plan according to changing needs.
  • Collaboration with external Institutes, Universities or start-ups if needed
  • Travel nationally or internationally from time to time to visit other sites, attend exhibitions, support customers, etc

Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Physical Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry with an emphasis in polymer science
  • Understanding of analytical methods including polymer characterization techniques (IR, NMR, DMA, particle size analysis, molecular weight and rheological tests).  
  • Expertise in IP research and patent writing
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data
  • Creative technical skills that lead to innovative products
  • High level of curiosity and initiative
  • Ability to learn and reason independently
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical challenges
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration abilities
