Job Summary
The Indirect Sourcing Specialist opportunity of CPI for Midland/Houston/Europe (DHL) & Paratherm supports Procurement & Supply Planning activities with a focus on packaged materials. This opportunity is accountable for the execution and of effective procurement strategies and procedures. This includes implementation of short-term and long-term sourcing strategies that align with site goals for business strategy, reducing cost, mitigating risk and meeting compliance requirements. Activities may include: supporting new or modified packaging development and commercialization, quality and compliance, projects, new vendor or material set-up including PIR administration and management of supplier relations. The opportunity is also a cross-functional team member, working with a variety of stakeholders including R&D, Business Teams, Customer Service, Operations and corporate Lubrizol counterparts. 


Support includes up to 20% of time to ad-hoc external manufacturing and supply chain activities as required.

Duties and Responsibilities
Key responsibilities of the position are listed below. Other duties, assignments and specific projects may be assigned at the discretion of management.

  • Research and identify capable vendors or contractors and Initiate selection, qualification and approval of new vendors in liaison with Corporate Indirect Leaders.
  • Manage preparation, and maintenance of paper and or electronic Request for Information, Request for Quotes, and Request for Proposals through delivery and project close out.
  • Communicate, follow-up and maintain the commercial agreements of portfolio.
  • Coordinate packaging agreements, forecasts, contract volumes and supplier relationship position with Lubrizol corporate Indirect Procurement as needed to assure effective purchasing of material.
  • Collect, analyze, and assure quality and accuracy of the spend analysis.
  • Assist corporate cross functional teams in defining project scope commercially viable (functional definition, value analysis)
  • Proactively identify value creation opportunities for internal customers, sourcing globally.
  • Maintain files and communicate non-conformance issues internally and with vendors.
  • Educate others involved with projects on procurement policies and procedures.
  • Negotiate spot purchases & agreements; enter, monitor, or maintain purchase orders in SAP.
  • Proactively resolve issues relating risk, schedule, TOC and invoice verification and processing.
  • Support compliance of corporate policies and regional/local Health, Safety, Environmental and Security practices.
  • Lead local site RFQ activity in alliance with Corporate Indirect Sourcing Manager and internal and corporate stakeholders in the process as necessary
  • Monitor performance of suppliers through review of SCARS and other data relative to performance for continuing relationships and improving performance as necessary
  • Lead in actions to assess and test introduction of new hard good containers and corrugated packaging aligned with Marketing requirements



Essential Job Functions

  • PO’s –   Assist planners to manage, monitor hardgood purchase order activity as necessary.
  • PIR’s/SL’s - updating pricing, incoterms, standard quantities, etc. to assure up to date information for POs; create & maintain Hardgood Purchasing Info Records (PIR).
  • Nonconforming hardgood materials:  Work with internal stakeholders and the supplier to manage nonconforming material.  Replacement, returns or dispose of the nonconforming materials.
  • Manage 3rd party private label external manufacturing packaged product, namely Shrieve, Soltex, Petro-Canada.
  • Process warehouse invoices for DHL UK and Logwin Singapore, Thailand and China as long as deemed necessary during 2H18/1H19 transition periods plus Central warehouse Midland MI.
  • Manage stainless steel leased tote fleet- tracking, clean, repair and recertification (CPI, Cargill and Lanxess).
  • Local Procurement SME for general reports and small projects



Education / Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience and industry knowledge.
  • Minimum of 5 years of enterprise level experience or equivalent in strategic sourcing, procurement, or supply chain, including proficiency in utilizing SAP tools.
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)




  • Experience in managing & planning/scheduling 3rd Party tolling and Buy to Resale. manufacturers, enabling ability to take on a broader role within the supply chain as needed.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills & detail-oriented.
  • Knowledgeable of the BOMs and RM/Vendors utilized to manufacture POE’s
  • Example ad-hoc external manufacturing & supply chain activities includes:
    • Assist with general Midland or offsite production schedule.
    • Update the Midland RM PIRs so correct and aligned to the proper personnel.
    • Change steel can packaging for POEs to achieve better quality, cost savings, and simplify filling lines.
