What You'll Do:
Avid Product Development, a Lubrizol company, provides entrepreneurs, inventors, and companies around the world with scalable engineering design and additive manufacturing solutions. We do this by employing people dedicated to continual improvement and exceeding customer quality expectations. Currently, we have an opening for a Systems Engineer, focused on supporting Engineering and Operations. The candidate selected for this role will be responsible for meeting the engineering design and software development needs of our external engineering and 3D printing clients, and providing internal support for Avid’s 3D printing, production, sales, and operations.
What We're Looking For:
- Oversee technical aspects of engineering work in a large range of fields
- Schedule and project timelines for design projects and production
- Estimate and write quotes for design and production work
- Track and document time spent on client projects
- Budget management for projects
- Design electrical schematics and translate them to custom PCB layouts
- Firmware development for mechatronic systems, typically in C
- Circuit debugging using standard electrical lab equipment
- Fabricate, assemble, and test CAD designs to ensure functionality as real products
- Frequent use of power tools including drill press, circular saw, angle grinder, and sawzall
- Create and conduct presentations on projects, data, test results, and departmental objectives to customers, management, and engineering team at regular intervals
- Assist newer team members
- Drive Avid to stay at the cutting edge of engineering for additive manufacturing
- Build and maintain integrations, applications and plugins that automate workflows across Avid’s teams
- Build tools to analyze large amounts of data quickly and efficiently
Skills That Make a Difference:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering
- 3+ years of industry experience in mechanical engineering, mechatronics or electrical design
- Intermediate to advanced experience in fabrication, assembly and testing skills for taking designs from CAD and ensuring they will work as real products
- Advanced knowledge of Solidworks CAD software and Solidworks PDM workflow
- Experience with ECAD software for PCB design
- Experience in embedded firmware development in C
- Meticulous soldering skills
Preferred Skills & Experiences:
- Design for additive manufacturing (DfAM), product design and industrial design
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of additive design software such as nTopology
- Experience with KiCad EDA, specifically
- Familiarity with common embedded communication protocols (SPI, I2C, USART, etc.)
- Experience problem solving using tools such as root cause analysis, 5 why’s fishbone diagram, decision matrix, etc.
- Ability to hand solder QFN packages
- Experience with PCB manufacturing, including reflow
