Principle Purpose:

  • The Plant Manager will provide technical and management expertise in all facets of the Louisville plant operations. The Plant Manager will also provide interface and support with the Brecksville, OH corporate organizations and provide guidance in collaboration with Corporate Management in support of TempRite and Vycar Latex functions.    

 

Safety/Health/Environmental/Security:

  • It is expected that all activities will be performed in accordance with established safety and environmental control requirements and within the framework of the plant’s Responsible Care® Management System (RCMS). The Plant Manager should participate in RCMS-related activities and provide input on ways to improve the system.
  • It is further expected that the Plant Manager will play an active role in the Departmental efforts to improve the working environment to ensure the safety and health of all employees. He or she should at all time demonstrate, by word and actions, a high level of commitment to these concerns.
  • It is required that all activities listed below be performed in accordance with established safety and environmental requirements. It is further required that the Facility Manager play an active role in efforts to ensure the safety and health of all employees, contractors, and visitors:
    • Ensure that Lubrizol procedures and policies are reviewed, approved, and posted by the ISO/Training Coordinator on the intranet.  Ensure monthly safety meetings are held for all personnel. Meet or exceed Louisville Plant safety targets. Be a visible presence in production and support areas. Routinely spend time discussing safety issues with all personnel in the plant.
    • Actively participate in the Manager walk around program.
    • Ensure near miss reports are assigned to an individual or department Manager and follow-up is prompt (initial feedback within one week; update database monthly).
    • Ensure corrective actions from incident investigations, HAZOPS are assigned and taken to resolution.
    • Complete each year without a reportable environmental release in either TempRite or Vycar areas.
    • Provide leadership to ensure that production demand is met or exceeded in TempRite and Vycar areas.
    • Serve as a participant when requested on customer visits and audits. Provide leadership and direction for Department Managers and Engineers.
    • Initiate and maintain a daily production tracking system to measure performance versus target.
    • Participate and direct Quality systems to ensure conformance with ISO 9000-2015 criteria. Participate in semi-annual Management Reviews.
    • Work with Department Process Engineers, Area Leaders, Area Specialist and Reliability Engineers to resolve issues which keep the production areas from meeting target.
    • Control the expense and capital spending in the Administration, Support, TempRite and Vycar areas.  Complete planned expense spending at or below budget. Work with the Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Coordinators, Engineering and Area Leaders to make good cost decisions. Monitor maintenance spending on a monthly basis. Determine monthly major cost items and review with staff. Complete capital spending as directed to meet the needs of the business.
    • Work with TempRite and Vycar Manufacturing and business teams to achieve continuous improvement goals and execute 5S projects. 

 

Nature of Problem Solving:

  • Business-related problems concern budget preparation, facility, interdepartmental cost distribution, and cost variances within the plant.
  • Technical problem solving may be used in the following situations.
    • Facility Equipment /Maintenance issues: Utilize Maintenance expertise and statistical methods to determine if maintenance equipment or services is a contributing factor.  Minimize any impact on production and institute corrective action to prevent recurrence.
  • If a true quality issue exists, assist in problem definition, and determine appropriate testing to aid in resolution.
    • Facility problems: Utilize technical expertise within the facility to ensure quality and timeliness of problem or equipment resolution.
  • People-related problems involve management of a union work force to maximize productivity.

 

Nature of Decision-Making:

  • Decisions normally made without guidance from superiors or others.
    • Evaluation of equipment, systems, and services to ensure facility operates to meet or exceed Management and Customer requirements.
    • Provide leadership to Administration, Support and Production Departments
  • Decisions made in conjunction with superiors or others for guidance.
    • Major expenditures.
    • Provide leadership and support to Administration, Support and Production Managers.

 

Planning Activity:

  • Input into short-term planning for the purpose of meeting facility and departmental needs including utilization of personnel.
  • Input into long-term planning involving operating or strategic goals involving the facility including utilization of all personnel.

 

Work Relationships and Contacts inside the Company:

  • Administration: Provide leadership and direction to staff that insures follow-up and resolution of problems or issues.
  • Lubrizol Management: Provide leadership and direction to ensure all corporate goals are met or exceeded. Act as liaison between corporate and facility to ensure all goals are met or exceeded.
  • Support: Provide leadership and direction within the facility to ensure that problems or issues in Production areas are followed-up and resolved.
  • Maintenance Manager: Provide leadership to the Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Coordinators and Staff to ensure resolution of maintenance related problems and issues are completed.
  • Manufacturing and HS&E Managers: Provide leadership and direction Production Managers and Staff to ensure that departmental goals are met or exceeded.
  • R&D Scientists/ISO Coordinator: Provide resources to ensure that problems are resolved.  Provide leadership to ensure all quality issues are resolved in a timely manner. Participate in the quarterly management review process to ensure that Customer needs are met or exceeded.

 

Contacts outside the Plant:

  • Corporate Management: Provide leadership to achieve or exceed corporate requirements in all areas of the plant.
  • Community Relations: Work with all groups within the community to ensure concerns are identified, address and resolved where possible. Provide liaison between the facility, corporate and the community at large.

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a technical degree with equivalent work experience is the minimum requirement for formal education.
  • 12+ years of chemical manufacturing and leadership experience. 
  • The individual should possess or develop a technical understanding of quality control, services and equipment and their relationship to the manufacturing process and/or customer processes and applications.
  • A proficiency in basic computer software including Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, and Windows is required.
  • The ability to work in a professional manner under potentially adverse situations is required.
  • The ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with all levels of the organization and outside sources is essential.

 

Nature of Supervision:

  • Direct supervision of Management staff in Louisville; indirect supervision of personnel through Management Staff.
