Summary of Responsibilities:

The Senior Scientist is focused on the discovery of novel plant-based/natural active ingredients for our skincare organization and its customers. Uses professional concepts to contribute to the development of company concepts and principles and to achieve objectives in creative and effective ways. The Senior Scientist is responsible for scouting, proposing, developing, and executing innovation projects surrrounding natural products.  

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop, execute, and document the processes and procedures required for new product development projects and for demonstrating feasibility of new product concepts and ideas.
  • Maintain product development files, specification records and other essential product development documentation using computer spreadsheet and database programs.
  • Provide technical support for new product development and established products to other areas within the company such as marketing, customer service, and quality control.
  • This role can be an individual contributor or may lead scientists and technicians.
  • Comply with all safety and regulatory policies, procedures, and requirements.

 

Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Physical Requirements:

  • Degree in natural sciences or related field, plus the following levels of experience, preferably in an R&D lab:
    • Masters: 5+ years of professional experience
    • PhD preferred
  • Strong analytical experience with various lab instruments, especially in HPLC, GC, and UV/Vis.
  • Demonstrate the ability to show initiative and to work independently as well as within a group, with minimal supervision in a less structured environment.
  • Documented expertise in phytochemistry, pharmacognosy, and/or skin science required.   
  • Experience developing botanicals for various applications.
  • Familiarity with product development cycle.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and draw conclusions to guide next stages of development.
  • Complex problem solving skills necessary.
  • Ability to innovate and think disruptively.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25lbs.
  • Must be able to frequently:
    • Bend over – 5%
    • Sit – 35%
    • Walk - 30%
    • Stand - 30%
