The La Porte, Texas TPU Facility is currently seeking a Production/Section Engineer to support plant operations. The La Porte TPU plant is a continuous production operation which manufactures the specialty plastics TPU and Isoplast.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Understands all applicable process technology, equipment, and control technology.  This includes batch mixing, fluid dynamics, dust and solids handling, reactive extrusion, dice cutting, underwater pelletizing, and process logic controller.
  • Participates in advanced troubleshooting and coaches others to learn these skills.  This includes digging deep into performance issues utilizing PI.
  • Implements best practices in operations to optimize safety and efficiency.  This is done through updating and improving operations procedures.
  • Updates performance tracking charts, such as downtime and % prime, and works to improve the results.
  • Focuses on equipment operations, capital improvements, special projects, and new product scale-ups.
  • Sponsors capital appropriation requests and execute capital projects from engineering through start-up and full commercialization.
  • Identifies and provides justification for capital projects in support of plant goals.
  • Executes projects that deliver intended scope on-time and at or below budget.
  • Facilitates RCI’s related to production or quality as needed.
  • Communicates technical information and issues to plant personnel and business partners.
  • Initiates changes to plant operating procedures to ensure they are valid by following the MOC policy.
  • Monitors and maximizes process uptime, reliability, and capacity utilization.
  • Works with Quality Superintendent to resolve customer quality complaints when process performance is suspected to be a root cause. 
  • Provide off-shift technical support to manufacturing lines and participates in plant on-call rotation.

 

Required Education, Qualifications & Experience

  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field of study. 
  • Previous experience in chemical plant operations support
  • Hands-on process engineering skills.
  • Proficiency in data management and Microsoft Office

 

Considered a Plus

  • Basic knowledge of thermoplastic polyurethane polymerization manufacturing is a plus.
