Senior Application Scientist, PCG

Summary of Responsibilities:

This role is a critical part of Performance Coatings Group application team, focused on technical activities such as the evaluation of hyperdispersants and additives, development of dispersion/millbase formulations, and formulation and application testing of paints and inks. The position will collaborate with the global technical community and external partners to provide technical support to customers in Southeast Asia (SEA). Additionally, this role will contribute to regional new product development through in-depth application studies of developmental samples.The successful candidate will possess a broad understanding and hands-on experience in paints, coatings, and inks applications, and will be able to lead and complete investigations and product development activities as required.

Key Responsibilities:

Application

• Carry out industrial standard application testings focused on hyperdispersants in paints/coatings/inks
• Formulating model paints/inks for application study
• Design and develop internal testsing/screening methods
• Develop structure–performance relationships and formulation/application know-how for Lubrizol products
• Follow safe laboratory practices. Maintain lab equipment and ensure high standards of EHS&5S.

Problem solving

• Provide root-cause analysis for product failures.
• Technical service and trouble shooting for customers.

Communication & Collaboration

• Document, interpret, and communicate experimental results to colleagues, sponsors, and customers. This may be in the form of formal reports or presentations.
• Collaborate effectively within a matrixed organization, working across global teams and business units.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry/Polymer/Material Science or a related discipline; advanced degrees (Master's or Ph.D.) preferred.
• 5 - 8 years of industrial experience in dispersants, coatings, inks.
• Good project management skills.
• Proven ability to lead small technical teams and deliver results through collaboration.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Fluency in use of DOE/data analysis and modelling tools.
• Strong communication abilities, with fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese.
