  • The role of the Reliability Superintendent is to support the Texas Facilities by leading a multi-disciplined functional group that drives continuous improvement in the area of equipment asset reliability and mechanical integrity compliance. 


Essential Job Functions:

  • HSES Leadership. 
    • Take an active leadership role in the HSES performance of the Texas Plants. 
    • Provide visible leadership to support and improve the safety culture, ensure compliance with environmental regulations, and improve the process safety of the Texas Plants.
    • Establish and maintain a safety-first culture by promoting and driving safe work practices, timely training, and best practices to promote safe behavior.
  • Financial Joint Accountability. 
    • Interfaces with Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations to manage plant’s expense and capital budgets. 
    • Lead continuous improvement activities to generate cost savings to support financial goals.
  • Key Performance Indicators (KPI). 
    • Activities include, but are not limited to, tracking, and improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), Equipment Availability & Downtime data, reviewing Preventative (PvM) and Predictive (PdM) Maintenance compliance & optimization, and PSM & Mechanical Integrity Compliance.
  • Life Cycle Asset Management.
    • The team will manage equipment reliability throughout the entire life cycle of the asset from design and installation to commissioning and operations. 
    • Engage with Project Engineering to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new installed assets to include proper critical spares inventory management.  Participate in development of design and installation specifications along with acceptance testing, inspection criteria, and commissioning plans. 
    • Collaborate with Maintenance personnel to determine the cause(s) of equipment failures, develop solutions for improving equipment performance, and implement recommended changes.
    • Analyze data and records from SAP to identify bad actors and develop plans for major upgrades of facility equipment to ensure the most current technology is utilized.
    • Deploy, manage, and improve predictive maintenance program, including Thermography, Vibration Analysis, Lubrication Analysis, AMS, Ultrasound technologies, etc.
    • Provide technical support and training to plant personnel for increasing asset reliability.
  • Loss Elimination. 
    • Track and reduce production losses and high maintenance cost assets.  Prioritize and focus efforts on the largest/most critical opportunities.
    • Development of plans to eliminate or reduce losses through Reliability analysis tools such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), Core Problem Solving (CPS), Statistical Analysis, Weibull Analysis, etc.
  • Asset Reliability Risk. 
    • Manage asset risk to the achievement of the Texas Plant’s strategic objectives in the areas of environmental, health and safety, asset capability, quality, and production. 
    • Support and utilize tools and programs to identify and reduce risks which include:  RCA, FMEA, RCM, PHA, Reviews, MOC, PSM Plans, CPS, Statistical Analysis, Pareto Analysis, etc. 
    • Continuously assure assets have most appropriate maintenance strategies applied.
    • Maintain a focus on assets at risk (AAR), potential business impactors (PBI), recommendations (REC) and equipment deficiencies (DEF), which will include reporting and application of mitigation strategies.
    • Participate in the Mechanical Integrity initiatives under Process Safety Management to identify risks and develop plans for mitigation. 
    • Provide recommendations for End of Life (EOL) assets for future CAPEX spending.
    • Adhere to and improve compliance with Lubrizol policies and procedures, industry standards, and regulatory bodies.
  • Other Duties as Assigned.


Education / Certification:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering is required. 


Experience and Skills:

  • A minimum ten (10) years of related experience in a process plant environment, with applicable leadership experience. 
  • Knowledge of SAP, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook is required. 
  • Extensive and varied experience in plant operations, commissioning and start-up, and application of engineering principles in a plant environment. 
  • Strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, and mentoring skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.


Supervisory Responsibility:

  • The Reliability Superintendent has direct supervisory responsibility for a multi-disciplined group of Reliability professionals in the areas of Mechanical Integrity and Rotating Equipment. Along with indirect Instrumentation & Electrical, Power Distribution, Project Management, Maintenance and PSM Support.
