What You'll Do:

The Distributed Control System (DCS) Technician is responsible for providing first-line support to the Operations Department for the DCS system. This support includes hardware and software maintenance, user-interface modifications, and process control operational assistance.

 

What We're Looking For:

  • Provides 24/7 on-call support for DCS needs and responds in a timely manner to MWO’s and callouts related to the DCS to minimize plant downtime and meet business goals.
  • Responsible for maintenance of DeltaV control system hardware, operator workstations, network switches, and network backbone.
  • Understands the DCS control strategies for assigned units.
  • Assists Operations Department with any DCS related questions.
  • Works in conjunction with I&E Technicians for loop troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Participates in checkout, commissioning, and startup activities associated with DCS projects, expansions, and modifications.
  • Assists in Operator training activities as part of control system projects.
  • Maintains DCS spares inventory including all SAP interfacing required to manage this function.
  • Implements MOC’s requiring DCS and/or HMI configuration changes.
  • Implements small-scale DCS-related capital projects for Engineering Department.
  • Implements alarm rationalization configuration data.
  • Monitors unit alarms and implements changes to bad actors or nuisance alarms.
  • Provides DCS-related information to root cause investigations.
  • Assists in SIS function testing.
  • Supports the Asset Management System (AMS) used by maintenance and reliability departments.
  • Participates in PHA, LOPA, RCA, and other process safety-related meetings as required.
  • Works with DCS Administrator to install DeltaV hotfixes and Windows updates on operator workstations.
  • Maintains spare operator workstations to a field-ready status and performs operator workstation image restores as needed.
  • Uploads new DeltaV license files.
  • Performs database cleans.
  • Collaborates with LZ Corporate IS in testing and installation of new software/hardware applications involving DCS network/infrastructure, such as for the network traffic monitoring.
  • Responsible for upgrading and/or updating all DCS field equipment (DeltaV controllers, I/O, and workstations) during DCS version upgrades

 

 Skills That Make a Difference:

  • High School Diploma.
  • 5+ years of Control Systems experience.
  • 5+ years of chemical/industrial manufacturing experience.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Available to respond to call outs - 24/7.
  • Available to work overtime when needed.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong interpersonal skill and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Detail oriented and the ability to prioritize, organize and follow through.

 

Considered a Plus:

  • Associate Degree or Certification in Instrument Technology.
  • Experience in maintenance and programming of the DeltaV control system platform.
  • Experience in maintenance and programming of PLC’s.
  • Experience with SAP.
