Lubrizol is looking for an experienced Communications Director to join our team. In this role as Communications Director, Operations, you will be responsible for serving as a communications partner to our Vice President of Communications and Senior Vice President of Operations. Additionally, you will develop a communications strategy that informs, inspires and engages thousands of Operations employees globally across~50 manufacturing sites, as well as tactics and platforms that support the broader employee base on safety and Operations-related topics. 

 

This role will require influence and collaboration with senior leaders and partners across the department and the organization. In this role, you’ll be part of a diverse and talented Global Communications team and contribute to projects with broad impact and high visibility. This position can be based out of our Global Headquarters, in Wickliffe, Ohio, or our Deer Park, Texas facility following a hybrid working model.

 

What you will do: 

  • As a partner to the Senior Vice President, Operations, you will be responsible for communications that engage both Operations leadership and our frontline and ensure a safe operationally excellent Lubrizol.
  • Within the Operations function, your team will support content creation for meetings; tool kits for initiatives, including talking points, FAQs and development of program materials; communications on safety programs, best practices and lessons learned; tool and training rollout and other initiatives.
  • The leader also is responsible for creating strategic communications plans to keep the broader Operations team informed, inspired and engaged. This includes evaluating, adapting, and leveraging a variety of communications tools, including digital signage, breakroom/bulletin board content and mobile apps, to achieve this goal.
  • In addition to Operations functional communications, this role is responsible for communications to the broader organization on safety (weekly safety metrics email, site safety spotlights), Operations innovations/wins and related topics.
  • In conjunction with other communications contributors, this leader and his or her team also will help propel and protect Lubrizol's reputation in markets with a plant presence. This involves supporting plant leadership in their interactions with community stakeholders, preparing templated materials about the company and supporting proactive site communications events—including ribbon cuttings, community meetings, job expansions, local media profiles and other activity to bring visibility to Lubrizol as a community partner.
  • Finally, the role will support local crisis plans and training, crisis incident response, and overall brand reputation in conjunction with the Vice President of Communications and other team partners.  

 

Skills That Make A Difference

  • Chemical industry background preferred

  • 7+ years of communications experience, including responsibilities and oversight of communications in a manufacturing setting

  • Experience in site-level or organization-wide crisis communications

  • Experience in community media relations and public affairs

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills focused on conveying complex information

  • Experience challenging the status quo to ensure alignment to company strategic plan and communications strategic communications plan

  • Strategic thinking/planning with great attention to detail and demonstrated analytic skills to understand engagement and guide our approach

  • Proven ability to juggle multiple projects at one time

  • Ability to build relationships to partner and influence throughout an organization
