The Engineered Polymers business at Lubrizol is a leading global supplier and innovator of thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) which are used in a wide range of medical, consumer, electronics, and other industrial applications. Its Medical business is a full-service provider for medical device design and development, for manufacturing of medical components and for manufacturing finished medical devices based on a wide range of material portfolio to treat numerous critical health conditions, from minimal invasive to long term implants applications. What You'll Do:
As a Senior Global Technical Director, you'll be at the forefront of our innovation, driving the global technology organization supporting the Engineered Polymers business. You'll collaborate with a diverse group of passionate individuals to deliver sustainable solutions to advance mobility, improve wellbeing and enhance modern life. The role is accountable for driving innovation, speed to commercialization, manage technology budget, stage gate processes, IP, achieving of innovation project portfolio targets. The role requires alignment of technical projects with the business strategy, and to ensure business needs are prioritized and global platforms are executed effectively.
The Senior Global Technical Director will also have dotted line reporting to the Vice President of Engineered Polymer business and be a member of the Engineered Polymer Business Leadership team helping to drive alignment in project priorities for the business. The role will require proactively supporting the commercial teams in identifying new opportunities and expanding our marketing influence and value proposition by engaging industry experts and leading customers.
What We're Looking For:
- Provides technology strategic direction for the Engineered Polymer business and ensures high growth regions and key business initiatives are appropriately resourced to win in the future.
- Establishes strong relationships with industry experts and customers, proactively supporting the commercial team in identifying new opportunities and expanding our value proposition and market influence.
- Responsible for budgeting, productivity, and efficiency of the global technology teams. Develops annual and multiyear technical and capital budgets and staffing plans.
- Fosters good communication, teamwork, and strategic alignment while instilling a culture of urgency and accountability for business financial results.
- Keeps up to date on key market and macro trends - leverages emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices (AI, digitalization etc.) to create a best-in-class technology organization.
- Identifies technical needs and solutions through customer and technical professional interfaces and aligns strategic technology priorities with commercial needs and R&D.
- Ensures alignment with key business stakeholders on all technical initiatives.
- Develops strong succession pipelines for key leadership and key impact roles in the global organization.
- Sets and delivers productivity improvement goals and continually assesses non-value adding activities to reallocate resources to the highest value opportunities.
- Drives operational excellence and a customer-driven mindset to deliver on aggressive growth goals. Ensures the stage gate process is consistent under the One Lubrizol initiatives.
- Drives change and challenges the status quo; fosters accountability, prioritization, and agility in the global organization.
- Ensures the laboratories are safe and compliant with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
Skills That Make a Difference:
- PhD degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and/or Engineering related discipline. Strong engineered materials background preferred.
- 10+ years of prior experience in leading specialty chemicals technology teams.
- 3+ years of leading a global technology team.
- Past experiences working in a complex organization and matrixed structure to achieve results through influence, teamwork, agility and working inclusively and collaboratively.
- Demonstrated ability to drive innovations in partnership with the business to deliver superior results.
- Experiences in building and growing a high-performance technical team with training, mentoring to develop top talents and build succession pipelines.
- Requires international and domestic travel up to 20% of the time.
