Summary of Responsibilities

Lubrizol is seeking an energetic thermal analysis expert to join our Measurement Science group.  In this role you will apply thermal analysis expertise to solve industrial problems and address product performance requirements in a wide range of applications.  Responsibilities will include support for long-term problem-solving projects, product registrations, safety applications, and fundamental knowledge explorations.  Additionally, you will work to address urgent manufacturing and quality issues.  As a member of Measurement Science, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with subject matter experts in many analytical disciplines including rheology, microscopy, chromatography, spectroscopy, and spectrometry.  This position requires a deep theoretical and experimental understanding of state-of-the-art thermal analysis equipment, techniques and applications including differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), temperature modulated DSC (MDSC®), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and thermomechanical analysis (TMA).

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop and apply expertise in thermal analysis to provide support to multi-functional project teams responsible for a wide variety of materials and chemistries within Lubrizol Advanced Materials
  • Design new thermal analysis experiments, and critically evaluate existing protocols
  • Manage and maintain existing instrumentation, and propose upgrades when appropriate, to meet the needs of both new and existing products and applications
  • Generate, organize, interpret, and report data to support technical projects
  • Communicate and interact with a broad range of internal and external customers through technical reports, presentations, and conversations
  • Actively participate in Lubrizol safety programs and maintain a safe working environment

 

Required Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

  • M.S. in Engineering or Chemistry, or B.S. with 2+ years of experience and a strong theoretical understanding of thermal analysis
  • Experience presenting and writing technical reports
  • Ability to travel as required (less than 10%)
  • Excellent skills in MS Office and professional thermal analysis software

 

CONSIDERED A PLUS:

  • Ph.D. in Engineering or Chemistry
  • 2+ years of industrial lab experience working with thermal analysis
  • Knowledge of physical chemistry, physics, and applied techniques
  • Experience with TA Instruments TRIOS & QAdvantage software
  • Knowledge of kinetics software and thermokinetics
  • Experience developing standard operating procedures (SOP)
