Lubrizol’s Home Care business unit is seeking an Applications and Technical Service Scientist at its Brecksville, Ohio facility. The position’s primary focus is to support the NA home care market by providing the application development, formulation development, product performance testing and general technical support required to deliver differentiated technologies to our customers. 


Essential Job Functions:


  • Serve as primary technical service contact for North America, routinely communicating with customers and providing technical support information and expertise for new and existing product lines. 
  • Lead and/or support customer driven projects, developing and modifying methods as needed and conducting experiments to help demonstrate the benefits of Lubrizol’s materials. 
  • Work closely with account managers to help identify unmet needs, effectively communicate technical information to customers, and commercialize Lubrizol’s materials in new applications.
  • Develop unique general market formulations/prototypes and associated data packages to showcase the performance of Lubrizol’s new and existing product lines.
  • Lead and/or support new application development projects for the global home care market.
  • Perform laboratory experiments, design formulations and conduct performance evaluations of home care products.
  • Organize work to meet multiple assignment objectives and complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Produce accurate and reproducible data and organize and communicate results effectively with internal stakeholders and customers. 
  • Maintain clear records and appropriate documentation of all experiments and results.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures and good housekeeping practices and actively participate in company safety programs. 


Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Physical Requirements:


  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or similar.  Master’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering preferred. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a laboratory environment.
  • Strong general laboratory skills with the ability to work independently, accurately, and safely in the lab with guidance as needed from Technical Manager or Sr. Scientists.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to analyze, organize, and present technical material to a range of internal and external audiences with varying levels of expertise.
  • Self-motivated with ability to effectively plan laboratory work, manage time efficiently, identify and obtain necessary materials, and support multiple ongoing projects with minimal supervision.
  • Good basic math skills required for formulation development, design of experiments and data analysis. 
  • Strong general computer and laboratory instrumentation skills and familiarity with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.   
  • Understanding of laboratory instrumentation, handling of chemicals and safe laboratory work practices
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems independently.
  • Ability to maintain an accurate legal record of experimental results, provide written summaries and offer initial interpretation of results.
  • Ability to safely work in a laboratory environment requiring standing for extended periods of time while operating standard lab equipment and instrumentation.
  • Ability to periodically lift and safely handle up to 25 pounds.
  • Willingness to travel domestically as needed



  • Technical experience in home care product applications, formulations and performance testing.
  • Knowledge of the polymers and additives used in above-mentioned market formulations.
