POSITION SUMMARY:  This position reports to the Manufacturing Supervisor and is responsible for overseeing the handling and production life cycle of raw materials, intermediates, and finished goods within the Bowling Green facility. This role is critical to the success of the facility and is responsible for maintaining a safe working culture, promoting continuous improvement, and producing quality products to satisfy internal and external customer needs. This position will need to work cross-functionally with Maintenance, Sulfation, Truck Loading, Quality Control, and other groups, to problem solve daily.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

  1. Manages daily production workload of department leads (Efficiency guidance, scrap reduction, operations assignments, expectations).
  2. Establish daily priorities that align with the production schedule to meet on time shipments and maintain the plant’s long-term strategic initiatives.
  3. Lead shift hand off meeting to ensure proper communication between shifts.
  4. Conducts Leader Standard Work (LSW) as needed throughout the shift including MDI Board completion.
  5. Maintain the daily shift report with details on progress including any safety or quality issues.
  6. Clearly communicate relevant shift status information to the proper stakeholders in an appropriate and timely manner.
  7. Support and backfill operators for the creation of Surfactants:
    1. Charge the blend and reactor vessels with raw materials following manufacturing procedures.
    2. Make additions to the blend, reactor and storage vessels from instructions provided by QC lab.
    3. Monitor reactions, temperatures, pressures, etc. to ensure equipment functionality while maintaining batch parameters.
    4. Sample blend, reactor, or storage vessels as needed to get the product within specification.
      1. Ensure proper process is being utilized to sample and submit those samples to the lab, without cross contamination of the sample.
  8. Fill and label drums, or totes, with finished products from blend, reactor, or storage vessels following Standard Operator Procedures (SOPs).
  9. Proactively coordinate the complete cleaning and sanitization on storage tanks to ensure clean and sanitary equipment is being utilized in the creation of surfactants to reduce the plant’s risk exposure for micro-contamination.
  10. Able to troubleshoot production issues with minimal to no technical assistance. Communicate or escalate to the appropriate resources for solution. Submit Maintenance Work Orders as needed.
  11. Develop and lead cross-functional teams to solve problems.
  12. Identify and utilize appropriate process data for decision making and recognizing the development of trends in operational processes.
  13. Proactively work to keep team members productive throughout the shift. Seek out additional opportunities for work if identified immediate work is completed.
  14. Proactively plan to ensure enough work is available and scheduled to keep all operators in their area productive for the current shift and future shift(s).
  15. Trains and coaches operators on processes effectively. Actively corrects others professionally, identified those who are not performing a process according to the instructions.
  16. Supports in the development and improvement of site training plans and procedures.
  17. Consistently exceeds production goals and brings up process improvement ideas. Develops and executes on scope appropriate projects to provide measurable results to the plant’s processes and/or objectives.
  18. Is versatile and can interact or initiate discussion with other departments to drive toward meet customer needs. Actively seeks out learning new tasks.
  19. Thorough understanding of the details of the Chemical Operator position, and the ability to train others to those details on a regular basis if needed. Has a high level of understanding of these processes and is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on those.
  20. Thorough understanding of the details of the Material Handler position, and the ability to train others to those details on a regular basis if needed. Has a high level of understanding of these processes and is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on those.
  21. Thorough understanding of the details of the Sulfation Operator position, and the ability to support others in those activities on a regular basis if needed. Has a high level of understanding of these processes and is able to leverage the skillset of the Sulfation Operator as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) as needed.  
  22. Maintain accurate inventory and SAP movements of raw and finished materials.
    1. Actively obtains materials/components for themselves and others to ensure production efficiency for the shift and future shift(s).
    2. Escalate, investigate, and reconcile inventory discrepancies as they are identified.
    3. Holds operators accountable for timely and accurate inventory movements in SAP.
    4. Conducts regular cycle counts of inventoried items.
    5. Lead teams to facilitate a successful annual fiscal inventory reconciliation.
  23. Operate forklift, as needed, throughout the shift.
  24. Manage the site’s utility and environmental control system, escalating to appropriate personnel for support as needed.
  25. Submits HSES Incident Reports as needed. Complete all tasks wearing the proper PPE. Actively participates in safety initiatives and follows/understands all safety rules and practices. Actively seeks out safety hazards and improvements. Raises concerns appropriately.
  26. Conducts and supports investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions of HSES and/or quality incidents.
  27. Maintain a knowledge base and be able to support with up-to-date DOT, ADR, CFR, Dangerous Goods Shipping, PI-13 and labeling guidelines and expectations.
  28. Maintain proper paperwork following GMP guidelines.
    1. Accurately record data following Good Documentation Practices. Utilize HPI tools such as Circle Slash when applicable.
    2. Holds operators accountable for accurate and thorough documentation in alignment with plant standards and good manufacturing practices.
    3. Support SAP entries throughout plant departments as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Operations related SAP activities
  29. Set expectations for maintaining good housekeeping of work areas throughout plant and hold operators to meet those expectations.
  30. Participate in the interview process to evaluate potential new hire Chemical Operators and Material Handlers.
  31. Conduct and support tours for both corporate stakeholders, customers and suppliers, and other third-parties as needed to provide a positive plant experience.
  32. Demonstrate Lubrizol Cultural beliefs in daily job, actively promoting these beliefs to co-workers and direct reports.
  33. Fill in for Manufacturing Supervisor as needed, understanding the basic job functions of their role. Holds self and others accountable.
  34. Perform other duties as required and directed by Manufacturing Manager or Manufacturing Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma and 3-6 years of related experience or combination of education and experience.
  2. Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  3. Read and comprehend procedures, drawings, and specifications.
  4. Must have valid driver’s license.
  5. Strong math skills
  6. Knowledge of measuring instruments.
  7. Good written and oral communications skills
  8. Familiar and proficient with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft TEAMS

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee will be required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Required PPE includes a uniform (provided; pants and long sleeve shirt), safety glasses, hard hat, and steel toed boots. Additional PPE may include chemical suit, chemical boots, respirator, sanitation boots, and earplugs (when needed) on production floor.

 

 

TOOLS/EQUIPMENT/COMPUTER SOFTWARE:

The employee will occasionally use PC with Microsoft Office products and frequent use of hand tools.
