Process Chemist

Location: Barnsley

Lubrizol, Barnsley are looking to recruit a Process Chemist to join their team. 

 

The successful candidate will be accountable for safely providing ongoing support and solutions to the plant. More specifically, this support will be in the form of continuous monitoring of plant processes, trouble shooting of in process issues, improvements to existing products and processes, and supporting scale up of new products to plant. To facilitiate trial productions, there will also be a requirement to coordinate projects between multiple departments. The role will be focused on providing support to Formulated Solutions and Digital Dispersions products. 

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for: -

 

  • Providing immediate PT support to the plant.
  • Leading PT projects or providing support for plant projects focused on, but not limited to, equipment reliability, cost savings, process efficiencies, energy saving and new product development.
  • Cooperating with site quality team and European quality team to develop and align test methods for raw materials, processes and final product analysis.
  • Coordinating with technical team to allow information transfer and implementation of new technologies e.g. process optimisation etc.
  • Using and analysing production data to drive business performance metrics.
  • Upholding safety and quality standards of the site.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and leading projects where relevant.
  • Actively participating in and leading by example in plant and corporate HSE initiatives.
  • Creating and maintaining process instruction sheets.
  • Creating and managing formulations and specifications in SAP.
  • Supporting implementation and writing of SOPs.
  • Assisting in new method development of analytical techniques.
  • Participating in root cause analysis and incident investigations as required.
  • Routine interactions with customers and suppliers while reinforcing Lubrizol's reputation and protecting Intellectual Property.
  • Working to ensure stable operations and on-time delivery to both internal and external customers.

 

To be successful you will need:

 

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related field or equivalent.
  • Strong and evidenced problem solving and project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - very important as you will need to work with a range of different teams.
  • To be self-motivated with the drive to take ownership of projects and implement fresh ideas.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to projects.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Commitment to professional development.
  • Strong IT skills with a good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Commitment to safety and upholding Lubrizol culture.

It would be beneficial, but not essential, to have:

  • Knowledge of experimental design (DOE) and data analysis.
  • Knowledge and application of SAP enterprise software.
  • Knowledge of dispersion milling for digital printing industry.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process for textile coatings.
  • Experience of analytical equipment e.g. viscometer, particle size analyzers etc.

 

This role has the potential to be an entry level role for a recent graduate. Whilst the role reports to the Operations department, the candidate should expect to work with multiple departments to gain a broad view of the context of their work.

Barnsley is a town in South Yorkshire, England. Historically, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, it lies on the River Dearne. The Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley had a population of 231,900 at the 2011 UK Census.  Barnsley is notable as a former industrial town centred on coal mining, glassmaking, wire and linen. All the mines in the borough are now closed, the last one being closed in 1994. Only glassmaking remains, with one company still operating. Although the industries declined in the 20th century, Barnsley's culture is rooted in its industrial heritage; Barnsley has a tradition of brass bands, originally created as social clubs for its mining communities. Grimethorpe Colliery Band is perhaps the best known brass band in Britain. It rose to fame in the film Brassed Off and is now the 'artist in residence' at the Royal College of Music, London.
