What You'll Do:

What We're Looking For:

  • Ensure a culture of quality and safety awareness in the laboratory
  • Supervise day-to-day activities in the QC laboratory
  • Maintain all lab ISO documentation including lab specific procedures and calibration records
  • Ensure that instruments are maintained per ISO requirements
  • Support new manufacturing authorizations from QC testing perspective for products
  • Support the LifeScience Polymer business by ensuring all requirements are in place for medical polymers
  • Aid with risk assessment analysis
  • Participate and prepare for customer audits
  • Participate on the internal auditing team at the plant
  • Maintain product sample retention requirements for industrial and medical products
  • Initiate and circulate product specifications for approval
  • Maintain product specifications
  • Understand equipment operation to assist, when necessary, to identify problems to correctly identify root cause to reduce future occurrences 
  • Ensure that all necessary lab supplies are available – including the preparation and standardization of necessary reagent/solutions
  • Monitor lab output in SAP to ensure inventory availability
  • Review and approve laboratory results as needed
  • Troubleshoot OOS results
  • Support supply chain to fulfill customer orders, control non-conforming products, and effectively manage MA product release
  • Coordinate testing from the pilot plant and R&D for commercial and experimental work
  • Responsible for assessment of Lab Technician performance, establish/maintain training systems and set work performance-expectations.  Document and address any work performance issues.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels based on manufacturing needs.
  • Work with relief technicians, to develop working schedule and manage overtime for all technicians
  • Identify and drive continual improvement projects that improve costs, quality, service, and/or HSES performance.
  • Assist management in developing and improving test methods to ensure consistency and effectiveness.
  • Investigate, perform required testing, and drive solutions to customer complaints.  Prepare responses to customers as needed.
  • Interface with all corporate, commercial, supply chain, customer experience, and lab / operations personnel as needed.

 

Skills That Make a Difference:

  • Four-year college degree – chemical or technical degree preferred
  • 3+ years’ experience in a lab setting
  • Experience with physical property testing & advanced instrumental analytical techniques
  • Knowledge of safe lab practices, lab techniques and quality management principles
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and medical requirements
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, verbal/written communication skills & attention to detail is necessary
  • Advanced critical thinking skills and the ability to make competent, independent, decisions in a timely manner
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple and or changing priorities with minimal to no supervision
  • Strong MS Office products knowledge and skills
  • Must possess the ability to interact effectively and professionally with internal customers, external customers, vendors, and various stakeholders
  • SAP experience, QM module preferred, and experience with LIMS considered a plus
  • Experience with Statistical Quality Control methodologies considered a plus
