Job Summary: 

Primarily responsible for developing and managing systems to ensure adherence to corporate process safety standards at the Avon Lake site and PSM regulatory compliance in the covered operations. This leadership role interacts daily with the engineering and quality departments, manufacturing personnel and the HSE&S department. This role requires a strong understanding of the various process technologies used at the Avon Lake site and leverages the available Process Technology resources as needed. This position reports directly to the Operations Support Manager and is a member of the engineering department at Avon Lake.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain systems to ensure all areas of the Avon Lake site adhere to the process and technology-focused elements of the OSHA 1910.119 process safety standard. These include the following elements:
    • Process Safety Information, Process Hazard Analysis (LOPA)
    • Operating Procedures, Operator Training
    • Management of Change, Pre-Start up Safety Review
    • Mechanical Integrity, Incident Investigation, Compliance Auditing
  • Lead Avon Lake engineering resources to ensure consistency and compliance to the above elements.
  • Provide/coordinate training to ensure engineers and other technical resources understand PSM requirements.
  • Lead Avon Lake process safety management reviews
  • Lead formal investigations for all process safety incidents at the Avon Lake site.
  • Lead internal Avon Lake auditing process to ensure systems are maintained and followed.
  • Lead and administer the site management of change process.
  • Participate in risk analysis of Avon Lake processes and in managing the Corporate Risk Matrix
  • Support capital planning process to ensure long-term process safety risks are addressed.
  • Participation in corporate Process Safety initiatives, including improvement teams, assessments, and plant audits.
  • Ensure system is in place for process safety training of new engineers and operators.
  • Provide process troubleshooting and technical directions to manufacturing departments.
  • Limited travel for training/meetings/audit participation

 

Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Requirements:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or other technical Science degree with 5+ years process engineering experience in manufacturing
  • In-depth knowledge of the OSHA 1910.119 process safety standard and its application to chemical processes Strong process engineering skills, with an emphasis on troubleshooting and process improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to use and lead various incident investigation methods, e.g., Taproot, Cause Mapping, Fishbone Analysis
  • Strong understanding of piping and instrument diagrams (P&ID’s) Strong data management and organization skills utilizing Microsoft office
  • Experience/training in process hazard analysis, LOPA, FMEA and/or Facility Siting methodologies
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to influence others.

 

Considered a Plus

  • Working knowledge of SAP (S4/HANA)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft share point or other file management systems
  • Experience with acrylic, polyurethanes, polymerization, and/or extrusion processes
  • Experience with the design and start-up of a new process
  • Knowledge of ASME, NEC, NFPA, API engineering standards
  • Working knowledge of CAD
