Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate equipment in the area including: reactors, acetone recovery system, truck loading and unloading systems, chlorination systems and other ancillary equipment to make product.
  • Safely handle/charge a variety of chemicals such as sodium cyanide, hydrazine and chlorine.
  • Perform routine trouble-shooting and minor maintenance repairs of the equipment.
  • Interface with the process equipment through a DCS system.
  • Access and enter charge data in a computer database and minor transactions in SAP.
  • Perform on-line laboratory testing of products as needed.
  • Serve on the Facility Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Fire Brigade and participate in mandatory training for the first 5 years of employment.
  • Actively participate with engineering on the design and implementation of new capital projects in the area.
  • Audit existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Communicate to both shift relief, supervisor and engineers abnormal events or potential delays in the area
  • Must be able to train up to your individual grade level
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives such as Leader Standard Work, 5S and other ongoing programs.
  • Issue area non open flame and contractor work permits as needed after training is received
  • Serve as a one-up approver for LOTO after training is received
  • Enter something happened / incident events in Avon Lake database and participate in RCA reviews
  • Maintain good attendance and accountability for your timecard
  • Communicate, document and escalate deviations related to the process, equipment or shift priorities

 

 

Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Requirements:

  • High School graduate or equivalent GED.
  • Ability to lift 55 lbs. and to manipulate 500 lb drums with drum carts and mechanical aids.
  • Ability and willingness to serve on the Facility Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Fire Brigade and participate in a minimum of 40 hours of annual mandatory training for the first 5 years of employment.
  • Ability and willingness to work either 12 hour rotating shifts or 8/10 hour day shifts, adjusting hours and shifts as needed. 
  • Reliable and willing to work overtime as needed.
  • Strong initiative and ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with all levels of the organization.
  • Good mechanical aptitude skills.
  • Good planning, organization, and leadership skills.
  • Good computer skills with word processing and spreadsheets as a plus.
  • Strong team player with proven ability to function well on a team.
  • Ability to multi-task and to plan/schedule the work for the day to accomplish multiple tasks.

 

     Considered a Plus:

  • Associate technical degree or equivalent experience/education.
  • Chemical processing experience, specifically in a chemical manufacturing plant.
  • Solid understanding of chemistry and chemical hazards.
  • Interest in and potential for a leadership position.
