Process Engineer

Location: Huddersfield

Lubrizol are looking to recruit a Process Engineer to join the team at the Huddersfield plant. 


The successful candidate will provide technical support to the manufacturing and technology teams as well as identify and manage continuous improvement projects, ensuring project completion is within approved budgets, agreed deadlines and with no technical, quality, safety, and environmental issues.


They will investigate and optimise quality, processing capacity and production efficiency for the Huddersfield site for new and existing products and provide process engineering and occasional project management input for capital projects.


In this role you will:


  • Support the manufacturing team to resolve technical and operational issues quickly and effectively.
  • Use and analyse production data to drive business performance metrics. 
  • Identify improvements and provide justification for capital projects in support of site goals. 
  • Liaise with site personnel in identifying and driving forward continuous improvement initiatives providing regular inputs to Site Management and Corporate.
  • Provide process engineering support for capital projects including input into budget plans for capital expenditure and commissioning of new process plant.
  • Identify and monitor process safety indicators escalating issues to the Site Management Team.
  • Provide support and consultancy to the Process Technology group for all process engineering issues.
  • Manage the PHA programme at Huddersfield and operate as a key contributor and facilitator in HAZOPs, as required.
  • Take ownership of the Management of Change process to ensure communication of any issues that have impact on plant availability, health and safety, environmental impact, or quality of products.
  • Maintain process safety documentation, e.g. fire and explosion data, process safety risk assessments (operational hazard assessments), relief stream verification, etc.
  • Develop and train appropriate personnel in the output from continuous improvements projects.
  • Promoting and demonstrating personal commitment to HSE&S through active and visible participation in implementation and ongoing use of the HSE&S management systems.


To be successful in this role you will:



  • Be educated to degree level or equivalent in Chemical Engineering
  • Previous process safety experience in a COMAH site.
  • Hold Chartered or working towards Chartered status
  • Have experience of working in the Chemical Industry/ Process Engineering – circa 5 years
  • Have experience of Process Hazard Analysis/ HAZOP studies, process safety systems and relief stream design/ verification.
  • Possess excellent communications skills and someone who enjoys working in a cross-matrix environment where they interact with a range of internal and external contacts.
  • Be enthusiasm and drive to develop and implement fresh ideas, who can look at things in an abstract way and provide working solutions.
  • Demonstrate proven hands-on knowledge of and passion for continuous improvement and problem-solving techniques.
  • Have proven project management or change management experience. Able to deliver innovative ideas and implement them through to completion.
  • Be able to manage multiple initiatives/ projects and communicate goals, objectives and accomplishments to a broad audience.
  • Have a strong drive and commitment to professional development. 
  • Experience of using DCS systems and programming, e.g. Delta V.
