Global Market Development Manager , Composites

Lubrizol Advanced Materials are looking to recruit a Global Market Development Manager to join the team.


The Global Market Development Manager is responsible for the development of new business revenues and opportunity identification in the strategic focus Composites market segment of Performance Coatings. As part of this role they will be responsible for cooperating with the Global Sales and Technical teams to deliver the business growth targets in this segment. They will identify commercial targets and define tactics and value proposition tools to communicate/ convert to sales with the customer.


They will cooperate closely with Global Sales and Technical teams in order to reach business growth targets. They will identify and work with external customers in order to identify value added opportunities and in conjunction with the Global Marketing and technical teams they will develop differentiated innovation projects to drive growth in the Composites market. The role works with external customers primarily and is responsible for market understanding and research and market development, to explore / exploit opportunities. In conjunction with Global Marketing they will build strategic growth plans and determine the best value propositions for our products and new developments and define the best way to demonstrate this value to the target customers they have defined. They will assure that the market development strategy is consistent with the overall related business strategy. They will liaise  with technical teams internally to work on innovation projects and develop strong relationships with customers to better understand unmet customer needs and market dynamics as well as maintaining Lubrizol's scientific image. They will cooperate closely with Sales to introduce new concepts and products to the market.


They will have some responsibility to identify growth opportunities by M&A and will be potentially involved in M&A projects within his/her market segment.
The role brings deep technical expert and market based application knowledge to be leveraged potentially throughout the business internally as well as towards the market.

There is the intention/potential for the role to pick up managerial responsibility of regional market development managers in other regions as the business grows and develops


This role can be based from the Lubrizol officesin the UK or Europe, or remote working.


In this role the successful candidate will: 

  • Share and educate across different regional teams within the PCG business to develop a deeper market understanding of Composites market and sub-segments within PCG..
  • Support efforts to analyze market trends and make recommendations concerning product strategy
  • Through their already established networks and customer contacts,  identify trends and unmet needs.
  • Launch new products, gain early market acceptance, and accelerate penetration.
  • Define and refine key strategic customers and establish strong collaborative relationships
  • Share and educate across PCG a thorough understanding of technology, formulations, applications, and performance requirements in the Composites market segments
  • Develop further their existing strong relationships with key personnel at customer technical departments to better understand the potential for Lubrizol’s products and unmet customer needs and market dynamics relating to our new development projects; participate in customer trials and product testing as necessary
  • Expand Lubrizol’s basis for differentiation and competitive advantage in Composites and define how best to demonstrate this
  • In conjunction with Global Marketing and Technical, write innovation projects to address unmet needs around new products, formulations and/or applications and that will deliver unique or differentiated solutions valued by customers
  • Maintain opportunity database to manage execution of key opportunities and projects 
  • Work closely with technical teams to meet pipeline project milestones
  • Develop selling cases to  communicate value proposition of projects and products with customers
  • Support the Marketing and Marketing Communications manager in preparation of promotional and technical material for the Composites market (brochures, digital marketing tools, technical articles, presentations, etc.)
  • Identify gaps in our current capabilities and with Marketing , develop action plans to address them. 


To be successful in this role you will have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, chemistry, or engineering. 
  • Well established experience and knowledge of the Composites market segment, including both knowledge of value chain; customers, end users and suppliers, AND technical requirements and performance benefits of additives and raw materials used
  • Experience of sales, marketing or technical management in the Composites industry; including:
    • Value chain analysis, customer needs analysis, definition of value proposition, marketing positioning, and a track record of success.
    • Demonstrated success at developing and implementing effective business strategies.
    • Successfully demonstrates B2B market development & market research/analysis capability.
    • Experience in developing product value propositions  and  market plans.
    • Experience with international markets.
    • Ability to travel domestically and  internationally
