ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Process Improvement Engineer’s Accountabilities Statement:
- Support the business by facilitating operational readiness and continuous improvement in quality, process reliability, service, capacity, cost/efficiency and new product qualifications.
- Perform all activities and tasks in a culture of accountability and commitment to HSES excellence.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety –
- Integrate process safety information (PSI) of your assigned area: periodically review to ensure PSI up to date.
- Drive and initiate projects to improve safety by engineering design.
- Participate in safety incident investigations and determine root causes when assigned. Develop and implement preventative measures.
- Support/facilitate process hazard analyses (PHA) as PHA leader when assigned.
Environmental –
- Initiate projects to improve environmental performance by reducing waste generation or promoting waste comprehensive utilization.
- Lead energy management initiatives on environment friendly, CO2 reduction, and cost saving etc.
Process Capability
- Quality –Be familiar with process improvement tools to find opportunities for quality improvement. Actively support QA on customer complaint internally and externally.
- Capacity & Efficiency – Make a deep dive study on OEE and propose debottleneck initiatives. Lead capacity expansion project to meet business growth.
- Cost Control – Drive improvements in material utilizations, energy saving, waste reduction, workload reduction, which are all demonstrated in product cost.
- Capital Project – Lead the scope development and design input of key capital projects. Provide technical support in the whole project life cycle.
- Maintenance Activities – Provide technical support on equipment reliability study, equipment failure investigation and new technics or equipment introduction.
Technical assistance may include, but is not limited to:

- Supporting for new raw materials, product introductions or process changes – Create work instructions and batch sheets to assist Unit Superintendent during process changes.
- Acting as a point of contact – Be a point of contact for technical issues with customers, suppliers, other Lubrizol locations (including PTS, Research, Pilot Plant and Marketing).
- Continuous improvement – Facilitate/support process improvement studies and investigations as request.
- Innovation on new technology – Drive improvements in capacity, efficiency, cost savings through innovative ideas on new technology, process, equipment, etc.
- Acting as a cross function owner – Provide technical support on shared processes for different units, such as energy supply, fire equipment, plant vent system, etc.
REQUIREMENTS – EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS:
- Education Background:
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Mechanical, Computer, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Graduate degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry is a plus but is not required.
- Technical Skills:
- At least 5 years’ working experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Fluent in both written and spoken English and Mandarin
- Must be able to multitask work on multiple projects of varying complexity at the same time.
- Must be able to prioritize multiple daily activities
- Other Experiences Preferred:
- Experience in the chemical process industry
- Knowledge of process safety
- Experience in tools application, such as OSI PI, Aspen, Statistics etc.
