The Process Engineer’s Accountabilities Statement:

  • Support the business by facilitating operational readiness and continuous improvement in quality, service, capacity, cost/efficiency.
  • Perform all activities and tasks in a culture of accountability and commitment to HSES excellence.
  • Meet technology support requirement from regional business, mainly for customer solution related business
  • Facilitate response to customer requests on process and technology



The Process Engineer is to provide technical assistance in the following areas:

SafetyThe Process Engineer shares responsibility for process safety.

  • Monitor operator procedures and practices, the process design and equipment for safety hazards. Initiate projects to improve safety.
  • Determine root causes of near misses and incidents. Develop and implement preventative measures.
  • Facilitate process hazard analyses (PHA) as PHA leader.
  • Participate in safety incident investigations and pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR).
  • Follow and complete HSES tracking system items when assigned.
  • Assist the Unit Superintendent by providing HSES and other process safety training to operators when assigned.
  • Demonstrate a high commitment to safety.


Environmental – The Process Engineer shares responsibility for environmental performance.

  • Monitor unit operator procedures and practices, the process design and process equipment for environmental hazards. Initiate projects to improve environmental performance.
  • Make formal notifications when environmental near misses happen.
  • Reduce waste generation from processes, especially hazardous waste.
  • Demonstrate a high commitment to environmental protection.


Process Capability

  • KPI’s – Support Production and QA to achieve KPI targets and drive further improvements.
  • Quality
  1. Be familiar with process improvement tools to find opportunities for quality improvement.
  2. Actively support QA on customer complaint internally and externally.


Capacitymake a deep dive study on time cycle and propose debottleneck initiatives. :


  • Cost ControlDrive improvements in material utilizations, energy saving, waste reduction, work load reduction, which are all demonstrated in product cost.
  • Process and Recipe Changes – Assume ownership for actions needed to achieve process changes.
  1. New equipment (Scope and Specifications).
  2. New raw material or product introduction.
    1. Study MTR issued by corporate.
    2. Create batch sheets and Work Instructions.
    3. Coordinate and provide trial batch coverage.
    4. Coordinate collection and sending of requested and/or follow-up samples.
    5. Analyze batch data and write final MTR report.
  3. Process parameter changes (Charge quantity, Temperature, Pressure and hold time).
  4. Provide SAP support. Set and maintain BOM, recipe, and EQS data.
    • Capital Project SupportProvide process knowledge to Project Managers and Engineering personnel to aid them in understanding and developing:
  1. Capital project scope (major equipment and layout).
  2. Detail design (equipment specifications, process requirements).
  3. Project cost estimation, Project schedule and Construction execution.
  4. Write WI’s or operating procedures for commissioning and startup.
  5. As MOC coordinator, perform the primary reviews and track all MOC’s related to your assigned area.
    • Maintenance ActivitiesProvide process knowledge to Maintenance personnel to aid them in scoping, planning and executing maintenance work (repairs or preventative maintenance).
      Technical assistance may include, but is not limited to:
    • Area walkthroughsMaintain presence in the unit and control room by making frequent walkthroughs.
    • Trial batch coverageCoordinate and provide engineering coverage if necessary (day or night, weekday or weekend) to assist Unit Superintendent during trial batches.
    • Supporting for new raw materials, product introductions or process changesCreate work instructions and batch sheets to assist Unit Superintendent during process changes.
    • Process and equipment troubleshootingTroubleshoot and resolve equipment and process issues to assist the Unit Superintendent.
    • MOC writing – Develop, write, and push through MOC’s/capital projects for process improvement ideas.
    • Acting as a point of contact – Be a point of contact for technical issues with customers, suppliers, other Lubrizol locations (including PTS, Research, Pilot Plant and Marketing).
    • Prioritizing tasks and projects – with input from Unit Superintendent and Technology Manager.
    • Preparing for periodic unit presentations to management – Prepare section conference presentations (Production data, capacities, capital projects, safety, environmental and staffing updates) to support unit superintendents.
    • Utility consumption support – Monitor and understand utility performance and usage trends. Generate ideas for improvement.
      External Technology support
  • Provide the technology support to external tolling service providers. Evaluate the toller’s capability. Ensure the quality assurance of toller’s production.
  • Work with sales team and PMG (Products Management Group) to conduct a trouble shooting on creditable product quality issue from customer feedback.
  • Be acting as the bridge between local customers and global PTS to address special technology issues
  • Provide expertise to support toller/customer process improvement
  • Evaluate new technology locally available and discuss with global PTS for adaption
  • Support LZA AP other sites upon need
  • Be part of ZH Technology team share the responsibilities of HSES compliance, capacity optimization and quality improvement.
    Education and Certifications:
    • A bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering/Chemistry or related technical field. An advanced degree in a related field is a plus.


Technical Experience and Skills:

  • Process technology of additive or lubricant fluids manufacturing
  • Lubricant fluid or additives test principle and methods (both ASTM and LZA test program)
  • Lubrizol PI (product Integrity) program
  • Must be familiar in Microsoft Office software (especially Excel, MS Word)
  • Other Experiences Preferred:
  • At least 5 years of related experience in process or QA roles.
  • Engineering company background is preferred, with a certain level of project design experiences.


Language Skill:  Fluent in both written and spoken English and Mandarin.
