The Reliability Engineer ensures the reliability of processes, systems and equipment while meeting all safety, environmental, cost, delivery and quality objectives. The Reliability Engineer is accountable for evaluating system and equipment performance and functional failures in order to influence Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and prevent any incidents, while effectively interacting all levels of the organization as a technical resource that provides engineering assistance for equipment (rotating, fixed, electrical, or instrumentation).

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Systematically reviews & establishes long-term solutions to improve the reliability of plant equipment and eliminate unscheduled downtime
  • Develops and coordinates the administration for the plant preventive and predictive maintenance programs, including the control of all data and the specification for the content and frequencies of work and inspections.
  • Measures, tests and evaluates equipment condition and develops a preventative maintenance schedule to reduce premature equipment failures.
  • Develops engineering solutions to equipment problems, including ways to reduce or eliminate the need for maintenance through equipment replacement or improvement.
  • Leads the site’s objective of assuring critical spare parts are identified and strategies for critical spare part access are in place.
  • Assists with definitions and tracking of Key Performance Indicators for site equipment and maintenance teams.
  • Coordinates with area owners and project engineers in analyzing equipment problems, performing root cause investigations, and establishing solutions.
  • Evaluates the effects of preventive maintenance on equipment reliability and maintenance costs as a basis for equipment design decisions.
  • Prepares cost estimates and appropriation requests as necessary for maintenance engineering work and prepares special reports as required.
  • Collaborates with Improvement and Manufacturing Engineers to update drawings and maintenance data
  • Maintains asset and plant equipment records
  • Trains mechanics & operators to ensure that reliability is factored into daily tasks.
  • Reviews code and engineering standards related to project design requirements.
  • Identifies opportunities and implements solutions that lead to equipment and process improvements.
  • Acts as a liaison between Maintenance and Project Engineering in the development, design and installation of capital projects.
  • Assists in coordinating activities of outside contractors relative to maintenance engineering goals
  • Participates in & supports plant health study and efforts to implement corrective action to maintain or improve plant health.
  • Adheres to the management of change process to ensure that reviews are completed thoroughly, risks are adequately assessed, and personnel are properly trained prior to implementing changes in the production facility.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university.
  • Five or more years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Experience with MS Office, MS Projects or similar software
  • Ability to self-direct and work well within a team
  • Ability to lead and coach in a positive and constructive way
  • Experience as a successful change agent, including teaching and mentoring others

 

Considered a plus:

  • Formal training or equivalent experience in the use of Reliability Centered Maintenance techniques.
  • Experience with SAP
  • Experience with instrument networks
  • Lean Six Sigma experience
