Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Leads the laboratory operations by establishing expectations and providing performance feedback and coaching to the quality assurance staff.
  • Ensures appropriate laboratory staffing levels based on manufacturing needs
  • Manages the quality assurance laboratory budget.
  • Ensures the quality assurance objectives align and support strategic plant and corporate metrics.
  • Generates and uses quality data (i.e. customer audits & complaints, plant metrics etc.) to identify and prioritize continuous improvement activities to drive product quality.
  • Approves all quality-related changes to procedures, specifications, plant equipment, master batch record, testing, etc.
  • Maintains effectiveness of the quality management system and communicates improvement opportunities to leadership
  • Ensures plant processes, procedures and guidelines meet quality system requirements listed in, but not limited to, Good Manufacturing Practices, Excipact and ISO 9001.
  • Ensures procedures and test methods used for verification and disposition of raw materials, intermediates, packaging, labeling materials and finished goods are maintained and meet all product quality requirements.
  • Monitors lab output in SAP to ensure inventory availability.
  • Ensures effective systems are used for maintaining and calibrating quality critical equipment.
  • Reviews completed production and laboratory control records before release of product for distribution.
  • Develops and implements training for plant people on quality requirements including ISO 9001, GMP, customer and product regulatory requirements, and the quality management system tools to achieve plant and business goals.
  • Reviews and approves qualification and validation protocols and reports.
  • Recommends and justifies capital purchases of laboratory equipment necessary to improve data reliability and integrity.
  • Manages the quality audit program to lead customer, agency, and internal audits to ensure customer and business needs are met. Leverages findings to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensures quality deviations and customer complaints are investigated, resolved, and appropriately communicated.
  • Ensures product returns and nonconforming product are appropriately managed to prevent unintended use and disposition. 
  • Acts as the plant interface with the customer, supplier, purchasing, supply chain, R&D, product stewardship and commercial organization related to the commercialized product quality / regulatory requirements.
  • Works with business and plant personnel to introduce new products as part of the product qualification process.
  • Participates in business quality system networks.
  • Leads the Shipping and Receiving team to manage the following logistic activities:
    • Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
    • Interacts with the offsite warehouse
    • Confirms customer expectations are fully met by shipping their orders on time without any mistakes
    • Investigates any logistic nonconformities and implements necessary corrective actions
    • Maintains excellent housekeeping in the area to eliminate any safety or quality issues
    • Ensures appropriate staffing levels to meet all shipping/receiving needs
    • Works with supply chain and production scheduling personnel to make sure all materials are properly inventoried, stored, labeled and moved appropriately throughout the plant

 

Required Education, Skills & Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry or another related science from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 8 years’ quality control experience
  • Previous experience as a manager or supervisor; Outstanding organizational and leadership skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Familiarity with quality ISO 9001 systems and procedures. GMP experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of safe lab practices, lab techniques and quality management principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Transactional experience within SAP or other ERP system highly preferred.
