We currently have the following opportunity for a Polyurethane Technology Process Development Engineer available at our Wilmington, MA location:

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Supervise pilot plant operations and pilot plant technicians to assist in product scale-up from lab to pilot to commercial scale manufacturing in batch thermoplastic polyurethane reaction and melt compounding operations at Wilmington, MA and other manufacturing locations.
  • Coordinate priorities, scheduling, and reporting of batch reaction, secondary processing, and melt compounding pilot line operation
  • Supervise, lead, and support LifeScience TPU product development, product scale up, process capability improvement, and new raw material evaluation projects.
  • Communicate with technical and non-technical members of group product development teams to understand project needs for successful scale up and product realization.
  • Design, execute, analyze, and report (both written and verbal) on multiple, simultaneous complex projects within pilot plant and commercial scale manufacturing.
  • Apply and maintain systems associated with new chemical introduction, Responsible Care Management System (RCMS), Management of Change, Process Safety Management, and production scale up.
  • Assist Manufacturing Manager and QA Improvement Manager to optimize current operations’ process capability, improve product quality, efficiency, and uptime by implementing statistical analysis, DOEs, and improved control strategies.
  • Comply with all applicable internal and external Lubrizol/LifeScience HSE policies.
  • Support/lead in manufacturing line troubleshooting and problem solving and use technical expertise and statistical analysis to quickly and effectively resolve issues.
  • Design processes, prepare engineering estimates, and coordinate capital projects on pilot plant equipment.

     

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's or higher level degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 2-5 years of pilot or manufacturing operations experience required
  • 2+ years of experience leading a team required
  • Strong fundamental knowledge in chemical engineering principals with proven problem solving abilities.
  • Strong project management skills utilizing stage-gate systems and job aids
  • Very strong “hands-on” mechanically and chemically oriented process-engineering skills.
  • Knowledge of unit operations and process/equipment calculations and design.
  • Knowledge of experimental design (DOE) and data analysis, using fundamental statistical techniques and statistical software.
  • Knowledge of medical device change management and manufacturing requirements and GMP considered a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills. Ability to work with others at all levels of the organization in multiple sites globally.
  • Customer focused – responsive to the internal and external customers.
  • Creative thinker with a proven track record of learning from both successes and failures
  • Basic knowledge of thermoplastic polyurethane polymerization manufacturing and chemistry preferred
