The Lubrizol Corporation is looking for highly motivated sophomores for our Supply Chain Co-op Program to start in our program in the Fall 2021 semester.

Lubrizol’s co-op programs have been around for over five decades. Many of our senior leaders began their own careers as Lubrizol co-ops; this list includes our President and CEO, Eric Schnur and our former President and CEO, James Hambrick. Each Lubrizol co-op is regarded as a potential future leader.

 

What will you do in the Supply Chain Co-op Rotations?

Students are recruited, interviewed, and selected to join the Supply Chain Co-op Program. Hired co-ops are then placed into one of our sub-programs based on student's preferences and business needs. There are currently three different sub-programs for Supply Chain students, as follows: Lubrizol Additives, Lubrizol Advanced Materials, and Lubrizol Texas. Each program offers a unique set of locations and responsibilities. There will opportunities to complete assignments outside the program you hire into based on your interest and the availability at certain locations. The following provides a brief description of some of the available work terms:

 

Logistics Operations (Avon Lake, OH; Painesville, OH)

This group is accountable to proactively source third party warehousing suppliers, identifying best in class providers at optimal costs and that deliver consistent continuous improvement and high quality operational functions. We build strong business partnerships through effective negotiations, while providing support and leadership to the warehouse management daily activities. Furthermore, we analyze, develop, and standardize metrics and indicators that will frame a successful operation, and that will allow us to provide the best service possible to our internal and external customers in a timely manner.

 

LZ-Advanced Materials Supply Chain (Brecksville, OH)

This area primaruily focuses on analytics and tying data to actions/improvement in the following areas:

  • Planning
    • Working in state-of-the-art MRP and strategic planning environment to build plans from the manufacturing level, all the way up to asset plans for the corporation
    • Working alongside Planners/Schedulers to develop short to mid-term master schedules to optimize our manufacturing plans and provide excellent service to our customers
    • Work with our Strategic Planners to build trajectory and asset plans for the Business Units
  • Logistics
    • Due to significant amount of product moved around the globe daily, coordiante resources that can help us to maximize efficiencies when moving product (whether truck, railcar, or bulk marine vessel)
    • Improve lead-times by utilizing creativity and data  
    • Work with Import, Export, and Compliance teams to better understand the Logistics landscape and potential opportunities to improve service of customers
  • Customer Service
    • Ability to learn in an ecommerce environment and improve understanding of an ‘order to cash’ cycle
    • Build proper metrics to measure/track our progress as Lubrizol moves closer to a ‘touchless’ order environment

 

LZ-Additives Supply Chain (Deer Park, TX; Painesville, OH)

  • The Customer Experience Team manages the “Order to Cash” process for both domestic and export shipments to customers and Lubrizol subsidiaries, supplier managed/owned inventories for key customers, and the complaint and samples management processes
  • The Supply Chain Planning team manages manufacturing planning and inventory control (replenishments and stock transfers of Raw Materials, Intermediates, and Finished Products) across the whole supply chain network
  • The Transportation team manages scheduling of outbound bulk truck, ISO, and rail shipments as well as overall contracts and agreements with our partners for truck, rail, terminals, and warehouses
  • The entire Supply Chain & Logistics organization works together to attempt to deliver the perfect customer experience via the profitable perfect order

 

Logistics COE (Brecksville, OH)

Global Logistics Center of Excellence (GL COE) is responsible for establishing logistics strategies, providing trainings and ensuring process and data governance.
Project work includes participating in logistics network optimization, freight strategy evaluation, and various logistics digitalization opportunities to increase Lubrizol’s electronic footprint with suppliers or carriers. This role will have exposure to the SAP Transportation module, data visualization software etc.
 

Supply and Demand Planning COE (Brecksville, OH)

The Global Supply and Demand Planning Center of Excellence (COE) exists to deliver strategic improvements and ensure continuous performance improvement through systems, processes and governance. Global Supply Chain strategic improvements include organizational design, effective processes, and innovative technology roadmaps. The COE is globally deployed to ensure focus across all business units and geographic regions. There are 4 main focus areas which include:

  • Supply Planning
  • Inventory Planning
  • Demand Planning and Sales & Operations Planning
  • Audit and Governance

The COE prioritizes projects that both capture value and align with business needs. These projects are obtained mainly through voice of the customer (VOC) in Global and Regional Council meetings led by the COE.

 

LZ-Advanced Materials Strategic Planning (Brecksville, OH)

Strategic planning is responsible for both medium (6 month to 1 year) term and long (2 year to 5 year) term planning for capacity constraint awareness and capital planning needs, as well as ensuring annual business planning and long term strategic planning is aligned with available manufacturing assets and capabilities to maintain supply chain continuity and to meet global business UOI targets. Strategic planning supports the LZAM finance team for development of financial models for capital project stage/gate reviews and final project authorization and supports global procurement initiatives for raw material risk mitigation, demand outlook, and contract negotiations.

This group uses Power BI heavily to provide effective communication, data manipulation, and data representation across multiple disciplines (operations, finance, supply chain, procurement, and R&D) to help with decision making and plan for critical LZAM manufacturing initiatives.
 

Digital Customer Experience (Wickliffe, OH)

The Lubrizol digital experience extends customer consideration and conversion through a personalized, consistent, and inspired digital journey that meets the ongoing, evolving needs of customers and the markets they serve.

Our vision for the new E-Commerce digital channel is to deliver a more valued online order experience to customers by offering improved self-service time saving options while reducing touchpoints in the end-to-end online purchase journey and to eliminate front end SAP order blocks. The first goal is to onboard all high service customers possible while developing less touch order process functionality to serve all customers by segment Pan-LZ reducing our cost to serve.

We realize the importance to deliver equal or better digital service to our customers to be rewarded their online business. It has driven us to develop a robust transaction foundation placing more control into the hands of our customers on price, dates, and ship visibility. 

It is imperative to ensure we are not only creating a more digital look and feel to users but also a more robust interactive capability for online buying and document retrieval as well as supplying date options to the customer checkout journey. Enabling customers to make critical real-time choices based on order detail transparency results in efficient informed user decisions. Making ship documents instantly available saves time for everyone. Overall, we want Lubrizol customers to favor online purchasing by offering ease and opportunity to place orders from anywhere at any time and keep them returning to the new E-Commerce site and rewarding us with more business. We will use customer feedback to continue and develop new features and services in the ever-progressive digital space.

 

Logistics Procurement (Wickliffe, OH)

  • Overview of the 7 or so main modes utilized at Lubrizol and the various sourcing strategies used by their mode managers
  • RF* process of a carrier bid understanding the bidding round process to completion and ultimate savings calculations
  • Carrier contracting via the Lubrizol and carrier legal processes
  • Discussion and exploration of opportunities for data analysis tools like Power BI to be used within a logistics procurement environment

 

Trade Compliance (Wickliffe, OH)

Global Trade Compliance is accountable to continually improve global strategies, organization, governance and shared services to manage risk, add value and ensure compliance with global trade. This group creates global processes with regional execution and focus on leveraging resources and global consistency on key global functions, which include:
-    Establishing global procedures, systems, and tools to manage global shared services
-    Define best practices and high level controls/standards in the areas of import, export, trade security programs, tariff classification, training and audits
-    Manage/maintain Global Trade System (GTS, a module of SAP/ERP)
-    Global Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) and Dual use classification of all Lubrizol raw materials, intermediates, finished products and samples
-    Global denied party, embargo and sanctions screening and controls to ensure Lubrizol does not have business transactions that are not permitted
-    Manage GTS for Free Trade Agreements including, auditing, rule validation, and auditing
-    Identify and audit opportunity for optimizing duty
-    Acquisition integration

Who are we looking for?

  • Students currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Supply Chain from an accredited university, with a graduation date of 2024 or later.
  • Ability to complete three or more co-op work terms.
  • Students with GPA > 3.0 will be given priority consideration.
