The Separations Solutions Technology Manager works closely with the New Business Development Manager to develop and execute against a technology roadmap aligned with business growth objectives.  The Separations Solutions Technology Manager will build technical budgets and programs, working with a cross functional technical team to deliver new products in existing and emerging applications. In addition to managing the R&D team and development programs, they will champion step-change technology with both internal and external stakeholders and partners, from laboratory to commercialization, and will find applicability and commercial launch plans for new separation product lines.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develops technical expertise and provides technical leadership across the domain of separation / membrane science
  • Supports technical activities through the various stages of innovation (concept through commercialization) and drives innovation best practices
  • Understands market/customer needs, patent literature, regulatory issues and industry trends to anticipate new technical needs and opportunities
  • Collaborates with other Lubrizol internal technology teams to leverage cross-business capabilities and competencies in the separation science domain
  • Collaborates with external entities on new technology opportunities
  • Develops plans, coordinates internal cross-functional teams and implements project plans in timely, cost-efficient manner
  • Facilitates necessary test development and testing to develop advance technology development
  • Provides technical guidance, formulation development, and application problem solving support to resolve field issues for assigned and anticipate unmet needs of customers, OEM’s, suppliers, and/or end users
  • Develops and maintains contact with industry bodies, key suppliers, external test laboratories, vendors, and government funding agencies to ensure access to newest technologies
  • Develops and effectively delivers clear technical presentations to internal and external (customers, industry) audiences
  • Develops Lubrizol’s external network and presence in this domain.



  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field (Master’s or Ph.D. degree strongly preferred)
  • 5+ years of demonstrated success in a related technical field   
  • Demonstrated successful technical trouble-shooting experience
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Effective project management experience
  • Strong presentation skills to showcase technology solutions internally to non-technical functions and to external customers
  • Experience presenting and reporting on project plans to appropriate stakeholders, including executives and senior management
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time and to participate in global discussions as needed
  • Fluent English oral and written communication skills
