Regional Health, Safety, Environment and Security Manager




Responsible for providing strategic, tactical and technical leadership in the implementation of region-specific HSES and Responsible Care® programs and initiatives and representing the regional perspective to global HSES teams.  Ensure Americas facilities understand compliance with applicable laws and regulations and corporate policies and standards consistent with Lubrizol’s Health, Safety, Environment and Security policy.     



  • Lead and exemplify a culture where ‘safety is a core value’ is a true belief and ensure safety accountability across the organization.
  • HSES point of contact for designated facilities in the Americas region providing leadership and support for the development and implementation of corporate programs, region specific programs and technical needs to achieve the overarching goal of regulatory compliance and continuous improvement in HSES.
  • Develop and implement the strategy and plans for continuous improvement of the operational safety and health programs and drive toward standardization where appropriate.  Focus on driving effective use of leading indicators.
  • Work with facility leadership to oversee the programs, procedures, policies, and training to address identifying hazards, addressing risk register items/process safety improvements and facilitating lessons learned, and raising safety awareness applicable to Lubrizol operations.
  • Implement proactive programs to reduce employee injury and illness rates, worker’s compensation rates, and increase near miss reporting.
  • Routinely evaluate the company’s safety and health performance through audits, assessments, and benchmarking. Develop and implement improvement opportunities, corrective actions and standards, based on the findings.
  • Work closely with local facility and HSES managers and safety committees, driving agenda topics and implementing actions determined necessary by the committee.
  • Monitor applicable statutory compliance across the business; track any new amendments and update standards periodically.
  • Partner with local leadership, HSES and HR in creating experiences for employees, vendors and suppliers consistent with our values and cultural beliefs as well as oversee and facilitate a calibrated proactive approach to “Journey to Zero” incidents.
  • Support overall development of the facility HSES personnel.
  • Partner closely with corporate HSES to ensure strategy alignment and communicate the operations perspective.  Position preferably to sit in Wickliffe with corporate HSES but not mandatory.
  • Provide support for various health and safety data base and information systems (e.g., Incident Tracking, SDS system, health and safety metrics, computer-based training).
  • Routinely report safety and health performance to senior management.
  • Serve as a key member on the Americas Manufacturing leadership team



  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, occupational health or related, technical field
  • 10+ years of progressive HSES responsibility with a strong focus on writing and implementing policies and procedures, preferably in a chemical plant
  • Strong organization skills
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and lead in a team environment
  • Must be able to travel exclusively throughout assigned region
  • Experience leading, training and developing safety awareness in a group of employees
  • Can effectively work in a matrix organization
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills as well as facilitation experience
  • Self-motivated, proactive with the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, “high energy", team-oriented environment
  • Must demonstrate enthusiasm, a sense of urgency, attention to detail, commitment and follow-through while maintaining confidentiality and meeting deadlines
