As the Process Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the building infrastructure, utility systems and shared services that support the work of the Research & Development and Testing (RDT) departments.  You’ll be accountable for ensuring that all the basic services and systems required to run the lab safely, effectively and efficiently are operating in an optimum fashion.  The Process Engineer serves as the key liaison between RDT and the Wickliffe Site Services team to coordinate building construction and maintenance work, shutdowns, utility needs and tie-ins. Additionally, this role is responsible for managing the Mechanical Testing safety and operations risk register and risk analysis process.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the quality and integrity of laboratory support functions and services for Mechanical Testing.
  • Manages the portfolio of capital and maintenance projects related to RDT building infrastructure and utility systems.
  • Conducts troubleshooting; proposes and implements solutions to problems encountered with lab utility systems (process water, humidified air, fuel storage and distribution, process piping, HVAC, electrical, Fire/Life Safety systems).
  • Provides leadership and direction for process improvement, preventive maintenance for lab systems, standardization initiatives and new technologies and other processes that will help improve lab efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Serves as key point of contact between RDT and Wickliffe Site Services regarding the coordination of building and utility system maintenance work, capital projects and process improvements.  Develops plans for annual shutdown that balance needs for safety, operational effectiveness and test demand.
  • Conducts risk analysis of MT operations and safety, develops plans and implements actions to eliminate or mitigate risks.
  • Directly supports the department’s efforts in developing, maintaining, and improving technical documentation of lab systems and utilities.
  • May require occasional domestic or international travel.

 

Required Skills, Qualifications & Experience:                           

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering
  • 3+ years of professional experience 
  • Project management and process engineering experience with building and utility systems and familiarity with relevant building, electrical, fire and safety codes.
  • Excellent communication skills; Ability to communicate to a wide variety of audiences at all organizational levels.  
  • Ability to multitask and delegate work as appropriate.
