Mechanical Engineering Operations Co-op Program 

 

Job Description 

 

The Lubrizol Corporation is looking for highly motivated Mechanical Engineering students for our Operations Co-op Program to start in our program in the Fall 2023 semester.

Lubrizol’s co-op programs have been around for over five decades. Many of our senior leaders began their own careers as Lubrizol co-ops; this list includes former Lubrizol Presidents and CEOs.  

 

What will you do in the Mechanical Engineering Co-op Rotations? 

Students are recruited, interviewed, and selected to join the Mechanical Engineering Co-op Program. Hired co-ops are then placed into our rotational program where assignments will range from maintenance, rotating equipment, reliability engineering and capital project management. Each assignment offers a unique location and set of responsibilities. The following provides a brief description of some of the available work terms: 

 

Capital Project Management (Deer Park, Painesville, Wickliffe, Brecksville, Bowling Green) 

You have the opportunity to lead capital projects from design through construction. This assignment will involve working with instrumentation, configuring control systems, troubleshooting, improving upon the designs of process equipment, working with the craftsmen, and gaining invaluable hands-on experience with chemical processing equipment. You will learn the critical roles that mechanical and automation support play in all processes while working firsthand with the processing engineers to understand the needs of the unit and translate that into a concrete project. 

 

Maintenance (Deer Park, Bayport, Avon Lake, Painesville) 

You will learn the day-to-day roles that mechanical support plays in the upkeep and improvement of plant processes. This assignment will involve working directly with the equipment and end users and improving upon the designs of process equipment. You will have opportunities to work directly with the craftsmen in understanding rotational equipment such as pumps and agitators. You will gain an in-depth knowledge of seals and the design and maintenance required to keep equipment functioning properly. You will also handle maintenance projects from design through construction.

In fact, more than 70% of co-ops come to Lubrizol after graduation. Two of our most well-known former co-ops include former Lubrizol President's and CEO's. 

 

Who are we looking for? 

  • Students who are interested in working in a chemical manufacturing environment. 

  • Students currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university, with a graduation date up to 2026. 

  • Ability to complete three or more co-op work terms (preferred) 

  • Students with GPA > 3.0 will be given priority consideration. 

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future. 

 

Location Pay Differentials

Like many companies with employees in multiple geographic areas, Lubrizol uses geographic pay differentials (regional salary structures). Salary structures for geographic areas with higher prevailing salary rates for comparable jobs have higher salary ranges than structures for areas with lower prevailing rates.

  • Pay Range: $20.51 - $29.26
