The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the fabrication and installation of mechanical testing systems, as well as the inspection, evaluation, and repair of all processing and utility equipment in the plant.  Equipment will include, but is not limited to piping, valves, pumps, compressors, reactors / pressure vessels, boilers, low pressure storage tanks, agitators, and materials handling equipment.  Assigned tasks will include working on fired engines and associated testing equipment and bench top testing for various chemicals.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Embrace and advocate for a workplace which puts safety as the highest priority for the Maintenance Shop
  • Utilize experience and knowledge to help others within the Mechanical Testing Department develop the best solutions to challenges and emerging issues
  • Performs preventive and predictive maintenance and repair of all industrial equipment associated with the operation of the engine testing laboratory and smaller bench top tests.
  • Leads and assists in equipment troubleshooting for mechanical equipment
  • Leads and assists in the fabrication, construction, installation, and modification of new, existing and customized equipment throughout the facility
  • Performs welding for mechanical equipment, structural and piping applications, including SMAW (Stick), MIG, and TIG methods; equipment metallurgies will include carbon steel, stainless steels, and aluminum.
  • Performs soldering and brazing for plumbing and copper piping applications
  • Performs metal fabrication work with a variety of materials
  • Performs equipment lubrication tasks with oils, greases, filters, pumps, and other tools
  • Operates or works with forklifts and possibly other lifting/working from heights equipment 
  • Performs all work in compliance with all health, safety and environmental policies and procedures, including confined space entry, hot work, equipment lockout, confined space entry, and working from heights/ladders.
  • The Maintenance Mechanic is also expected to perform other related maintenance and business duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.


Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Excellent math, reading, comprehension and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of data entry
  • Valid driver’s license
  • 2+ years welding experience
  • Ability to work safely, independently and on a team
  • Must be willing to work overtime including weekends, holidays and call-ins
  • Must be medically certified to wear a negative-pressure respirator and other PPE as required


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a chemical plant or an industrial setting
  • 2+ years' skilled industrial maintenance experience
  • Associate’s degree or certificate in Industrial Maintenance and/or Engineering Technology programs or trade program
  • Experience with SAP
  • Experience with air-operated diaphragm, centrifugal, positive displacement, and other pumps
  • Experience with air humidification systems, coolant/cooling systems, etc.
  • Familiarity with ISO procedures, plumbing, millwriting, rigging, rotating/stationary equipment repair, metal fabrication, insulating, and reading prints/diagrams a plus.


Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather.
  • Will be subjected to extended periods of climbing ladders and stairways, sitting, kneeling, walking, standing, bending, stooping, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, moving and lifting up to 55 pounds.
