Information Solutions Co-Op

The Lubrizol IS co-operative education program works together with selected universities that sponsor a work/study curriculum in computer science or information solutions. If you’re an innovator, a problem-solver and enjoy utilizing computer technologies, we want to work with you. As a Lubrizol Information Solutions co-op, you will rotate through a number of different assignments based on your interests and on the company’s needs. Lubrizol believes in providing you with a wide variety of experiences as well as increasing your responsibilities as you progress through the program.

As a Lubrizol IS co-op, you will rotate through a number of different assignments based on your interests and on the company’s needs. The typical rotation takes place in Wickliffe.  You will be exposed to a variety of assignments depending on the number of rotations you do in the program.  Participation in at least three alternate semesters is highly encouraged / desired. This ensures that you get a flavor for more traditional information solutions roles.
Potential Assignments:

Cloud Hosting and Back Office Solutions:

The Cloud Hosting and Back Office Solutions team is responsible for providing server, storage and backup capacity for Lubrizol’s applications and data.  This team is also responsible for purchasing new equipment for data centers companywide and has implemented a new corporate procurement strategy for our data centers.  You will learn to rack servers, configure them and you will gain familiarity with many of the tools they use.  You can also gain exposure to the business side of IS by seeing the new way of procuring our hardware and software.  Going forward co-ops will get experience with procurement and capacity management for on premise data centers as well as cloud provisioning with platforms like Microsoft azure and office 365.


HSE&S Process Services

This assignment is directly related to creation and maintenance of Lubrizol material labeling.   Samples, raw materials, intermediates and products must all have proper labeling to be compliant with regulatory standards.   This assignment will involve regular communications with the business community, Product Safety and Compliance experts, Transportation experts and the labeling committee.  Some responsibilities include developing label statistics, label templates and testing.


Information Security and Compliance Team

The Information Security team is responsible for identifying and addressing security-based risks, threats and vulnerabilities companywide.  On this team, you may work with the Security Operations Center to monitor, discover, and improve the security of the cyber environment.  Or you may have other opportunities to help protect Lubrizol’s systems and information.  You will use cutting edge technologies, and be exposed to the tools that professionals in this field are using.  Information Security is a huge field with many teams, so you’ll have the opportunity to explore, and find what interests you!


Manufacturing Automation Team

The Manufacturing Automation team focuses on data mining information from our plants to provide people within operations the ability to analyze the data and get value from it. The main tool that the team has provided for users to query data mined is all through a tool called OEDI. On this team you will get exposure to the batch process (using the S88 standard) which is how Lubrizol makes their chemicals and is also how the Mfg. Auto team organizes the data they provide. As a co-op on this team you can anticipate a multitude of varying projects such as programming (back-end/front-end), working with SQL, and plant cybersecurity.  Working on challenging projects and collaborating with others on a global scale makes for a great experience!


Networking and Communications Team

You will be a member of a team responsible for maintaining Lubrizol’s global voice and data network. You will work on various technical problems that arise during the daily operations of the running a global network. You will get exposure to different types of network devices and learn how to technically administer them as well as see how the network architecture is designed. You may work on projects involving the installation of new Voice over IP phone systems, monitoring and troubleshooting network traffic, network security issues and upgrading network links responsible for carrying both the voice and data traffic to/from Lubrizol’s remote facilities.


Public Web Services Team

The Public Web Services Team is responsible for managing and maintaining Lubrizol websites. As a member of this team, you will provide support to our websites, while also meeting the digital marketing needs of Lubrizol. You will get firsthand experience with what is required to preserve a successful website through the creation of webpages, search engine optimization, and fulfilling business requests. Throughout your time on the team, you will be assigned a variety of duties that will allow you to develop your technical skills by becoming familiar with back-end architecture, SharePoint, and web based programming languages. Additional duties with be assigned based on specific projects that are active during that semester.


Mobile & Product Lifecycle Services
The Mobile & Product Lifecycle Services team is responsible for the development and support of custom mobile and web applications used in the business. As a co-op on this team, you will learn to develop creative solutions using both front end and back end architecture. You will gain experience with modern development languages like C# and the .NET Framework, as well as user interface construction through Bootstrap and Knockout JS. This team leverages new and innovative technologies, like Raspberry Pi and Google Glass, to improve employee productivity and the usability and scalability of our applications. As a member of the Mobile and Product Lifecycle team, you will have an opportunity to develop business relationships with divisions of Lubrizol.


Service & Portfolio Management

The Portfolio and Service Management team is responsible for defining and tracking the processes by which IS runs its business.  In this role you will become familiar with IT Service Management (ITSM) standard processes, Project Portfolio Management processes and how conformance to these are measured and monitored within Lubrizol.  You will be responsible for helping to develop reports and dashboards which will help the management team assess performance against these standards and continuous process improvement.  Additional duties will be assigned based on specific projects that are active during that semester.


Digital Media Services – Business Solutions

The Digital Communications Services Team is responsible for designing and building user interfaces and communications for websites, SharePoint sites and Wall screen interfaces. The team integrates user experience as well by making these content experiences compatible with all devices and platforms such as Azure and X2oMedia. While on this team, you will be responsible for building responsive interfaces for web based platforms such as SharePoint and bootstrap as well as creating experiences and solutions for our wall screen communication platform. Video recording & editing and the management of our video service and community may also be assigned to you. Additional responsibilities will vary based on projects available the semester that you are on rotation and will involve collaboration with our internal communications coordinator and global business users. Key technologies include the Adobe Creative Suite, HTML5, Bootstrap, CSS3/JavaScript, SharePoint, X2oMedia, Office365 and On-demand Video Streaming Solutions.

Who are we looking for?

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Systems or Computer Engineering from an accredited university, with a graduation date of 2022 or later.
  • Students with GPA > 3.0 will be given priority consideration.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future.
