HSES Operations Co-op Program

Job Description

 

The Lubrizol Corporation is looking for highly motivated Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security (HSES) sophomores for our Operations Co-op Program to start in our program in the Fall 2023 semester.

Lubrizol’s co-op programs have been around for over five decades. Many of our senior leaders began their own careers as Lubrizol co-ops; this list includes former Lubrizol Presidents and CEOs. Each Lubrizol HSES Co-op is regarded as a potential future leader.

 

What will you do in the Operations Co-op Rotations?

Students are recruited, interviewed, and selected to join the Operations Co-op Program. Our program offers a wide range of locations and responsibilities. Each assignment will challenge you to build on the knowledge you gain in the classroom.  The following provides a brief description of some of the available work terms:

 

Lubrizol Additives

The co-op students in the Additives division of Lubrizol can choose between Wickliffe, OH; Painesville, OH; Deer Park, TX; and Bayport, TX. Wickliffe is Lubrizol’s global headquarters and is home to our R&D, mechanical testing, and pilot plant facilities. Deer Park, Bayport, and Painesville are the manufacturing homes to many of Lubrizol Additives’ specialty products.

 

Lubrizol Advanced Materials

The co-ops in the Advanced Materials division of Lubrizol will have assignments at our Avon Lake, OH site, our Brecksville, OH site, and terms at our other manufacturing sites across the United States. Avon Lake is home to our process development group, pilot plant facilities, and production of many of Advanced Material’s specialty products. Our other sites offer manufacturing of various products in different markets. The sites offering co-op terms include Bowling Green, OH; Brecksville, OH; and Victor, MT, with more opportunities continually opening up at other sites.

 

What will your co-op term look like?

  • Assist with strategic and tactical leadership in the development and implementation of the facility’s safety and environmental management programs and initiatives
  • Assure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations of the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the State Environmental Protection Agency, and Lubrizol standards and policies
  • Assist with the development and implementation of safety programs and initiatives
  • Provide technical oversight and review for the appropriate safety and environmental media
  • Prepare permits, reports, forms, and other routine and non-routine submittals for the appropriate safety and environmental media in an accurate and timely manner
  • Assist with coordinating required testing events for the appropriate media
  • Participate in risk assessments, emergency response training/drills, safety inspections
  • Identify and test safety showers/eyewash stations
  • Identify site-wide confined spaces

  • Full-time opportunities after graduation. Our engineering co-op program is an important vehicle for hiring full-time engineers at Lubrizol. In fact, more than 70% of co-ops come to Lubrizol after graduation. Two of our most well-known former co-ops include former Lubrizol Presidents and CEOs.

 

Who are we looking for?

  • Students who are interested in working in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Students currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering from an accredited university, with a graduation date up to 2026.
  • Ability to complete three or more co-op work terms (preferred)
  • Students with GPA > 3.0 will be given priority consideration.
