The Lubrizol Corporation (Lubrizol) has an opening for an experienced Environmental Counsel to support Lubrizol’s global business.  The Environmental Counsel will provide advice to the Company regarding environmental, HSEQ and product regulatory, compliance, enforcement, and litigation matters. This role would be based at our Global Headquarters, in Wickliffe, Ohio, following a hybrid working model.
 
What you will do:
  • Legal support for Lubrizol’s environmental operations, including counseling on all aspects of air, waste, land, water, transportation and security matters related to regulatory compliance, investigations and enforcement issues.
  • Legal support for the enterprise-wide environmental issues including dealings with third parties, related to federal, state, or local environmental or other agencies or representatives.
  • Negotiate agreements related to environmental operations, including permits, consent decrees, settlements and similar agreements.
  • Legal support for HSEQ and product regulations due diligence in mergers and acquisitions transactions.
  • Legal support for Lubrizol’s remediation site portfolio, including reviewing consultant reports, assisting in assessing financial assurance requirements, and counseling on site priorities.
  • Conduct and coordinate research into a variety of legal issues, ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and Company policy, anticipate and address legal risks and exposures for the Company.
  • Coordinate with and oversee outside counsel to ensure proper handling of environmental matters.
  • Participate in certain trade organization committees to advise on policy, rulemaking activities and proposed regulations.
  • Stay current on emerging trends in environmental law through continuing legal education, industry publications, and participation in professional conferences and associations.
 
What you need:
  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
  • Minimum of 8 or more years’ experience in the practice of environmental law in a private law firm or corporate law department.
  • Experience in analyzing federal and state environmental regulatory requirements.
  • Member in good standing with a state bar; if bar is other than Ohio, ability to obtain registered corporate counsel status.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team providing timely, clear and concise legal advice in order to accomplish the business objectives.
  • Ability to independently organize, prioritize, and manage a high volume of projects.
  • Solid work ethic, commitment to job completion and personal integrity.
  • Approximately 15 % travel.
  • Dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive team environment.
  • Preferable experience in product regulatory matters such as TSCA, REACH, and similar programs.
