Electrochemist – Chemical Synthesis

The Chemical Synthesis department, within R&D, supports Lubrizol by invention & synthesis of new specialty-chemicals and technical support of existing products. Our business depends on developing chemistry with unique performance characteristics which meet or exceed constantly evolving application requirements. Developing this technology requires an exceptional level of collaboration between chemists, physical & analytical scientists, chemical and mechanical engineers, formulators, and marketers.

Responsibilities: 

  • Invents, prepares, and develops new chemical products and materials as they relate to energy storage and/or electrochemical manufacturing processes.  
  • Performs and interprets the results of electrochemical testing   
  • Develops structure-performance relationships  
  • Performs independent research in a multidisciplinary environment on complex issues  
  • Utilizes advanced chemical and electrochemical knowledge, data, modeling and statistical tools to solve technical challenges  
  • Works with business teams and/or customers to develop innovative new technology  
  • Documents, interprets and communicates results to colleagues, sponsors and customers  
  • Follows safe laboratory practices 

 

Requirements: 

  • Ph.D. in organic, materials or polymer chemistry with an emphasis in electrochemistry
  • Demonstrated knowledge or expertise in organic or polymer synthesis
  • Demonstrated knowledge or expertise in electrochemical testing and characterization
  • Solid understanding of a range of energy storage technologies and/or electrochemical systems
  • Track record of innovative thinking and technical accomplishments
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Excellent organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills

Considered a plus:

  • Post-Doctoral or Industrial experience
